In our house we believe in the Easter Bunny and Santa Clause.

But we have a little problem with the tooth fairy.

How many of you can remember the little tooth under your child's pillow?
I'm not even going to answer this question.
YOu would not believe the stories I can tell!

While I'm here.......what is the going rate these days?

Hi Gourmet --

Been there, done that. Our youngest hasn't lost any teeth yet, but our oldest has lost a few (now 9). Sometimes the tooth fairy doesn't make it. Sometimes the tooth fairy pays "guilt" money ! As we've explained to our children, it's impossible for the tooth fairy to make it to everyone's house each night -- especially if you lost a tooth later in the day.

First tooth ever was $ 5.00. Then it was $ 2 or $ 3 each, depending on the "guilt" factor, and how many nights it took the tooth fairy to get to our house !!!

Have you ever stepped on a lego in the dark while delivering the cold hard cash?

Here's a couple hints... first, have 2 matching little bags. (get grandma to make them!) Put the tooth in one, and prepare the second one w/ the cash inside for later. Even better if you can hang the little bag on a bedpost or something... way easier than digging around under a pillow for a tiny tooth. Then sneak in and make the swap, but you need to do it before you go to bed, otherwise, it's too easy to forget.

But if you do forget, there is a good explanation.. The EB & Santa Claus always know exactly which night they have to deliver, and exactly how many stops have to be made. The tooth fairy does not know on any given day how many teeth will be lost, so planning is tougher. Of course, you do have to pay double for every day you are late...

Good Luck!

Speaking of the tooth fairy, this kid has it all figured out...
One of the funniest stories i'd ever heard, on NPR (This American Life)

I have my kids put there tooth in a container on the counter or table where I see it when I walk by. Also I dont wait . As soon as they go to bed I take care of it. Havent missed one yet.

Now Santa and the Easter bunny are a different story. Can't do that thing until just before I go to bed in case they sneek downstairs wile Im still up.And yes I have forgotten all or part before going to bed. However I have been lucky and relized I forgot something before they got up in the morning.

My tooth fairy only gave me a quarter for every tooth I lost, but .25 cents could buy you 1 Bighunk a box of jujubees and 5 bazooka buble gums, I was always loosening and breaking my teeth out early, boy did it bleed.
