And, I've never bought a mango, and I dont believe I like them very much.
It's the texture.

Mangoes sure are a pain to try to consume, but yum! I only eat them by themselves on nice sunny days when I can peel and eat it outside and hose off after it's dripped all down my arms. lol

Otherwise, I like to peel them and squeeze them with my hands into either the food processor or the blender to add to a salsa, to sweeten a pasta sauce, or to complement a frozen smoothie of some sort. To eliminate all that mess, frozen mango chunks work well, too.

I see pictures of folks who've peeled and sliced them into perfect little chunks...but I've never experienced being able to pull that off...not even close. lol

Just a piece of new meat in a clean room
The soldiers close in under a yellow moon
All shadows and deliverance
Under a black flag
A hundred years of blood
Crimson

---

Movement
No movement
Just a falling bird
Cold as it hits the bleeding ground
He lived and died...
Catch sight
Cover me with earth
Draped in black
Static
White sound

---

Creatures kissing in the rain
Shapeless in the dark again
In a hanging garden
Change the past
In a hanging garden
Wearing furs and masks...

---

I chose an eternity of this
Like falling angels
The world disappeared
Laughing into the fire
Is it always like this?
Flesh and blood and the first kiss
The first colours
The first kiss

---

Sharp and open
Leave me alone
And sleeping less every night
As the days become heavier and weighted
Waiting
In the cold light
A noise
A scream tears my clothes as the figurines tighten
With spiders inside them
And dust on the lips of a vision of hell
I laughed in the mirror for the first time in a year

---

My head falls backs
And the walls crash down
And the sky
And the impossible
Explode
Held for one moment I remember a song
An impression of sound
Then everything is gone
Forever

---

A shallow grave
A monument to the ruined age
Ice in my eyes
And eyes like ice don't move
Screaming at the moon
Another past time
Your name
Like ice into my heart

---

A hand in my mouth
A life spills into the flowers
We all look so perfect
As we all fall down
In an electric glare
The old man cracks with age
She found his last picture
In the ashes of the fire
An image of the queen
Echoes round the sweating bed
Sour yellow sounds inside my head

That was quite the wake up call earlier today when they posted the actual tracks of the tornadoes. Of course my dog slept through the entire storm.

grilled cheese and tomato bisque soup!

aeon
08-10-17, 07:51 PM
Those who have had the opportunity to have a grilled cheese that I have made would tell you that they are the best they have ever had.

But before they had the first one, each and every got their panties in a bunch because they thought I was making a production out of something simple.

Well, if you want to make something special, you need to not treat it casually. Also, cooking is a scientific process, even if it isn't thought about that way too often...you're trying to replicate results under controlled and specific conditions, after all.

And I have made many that were less than they could be...those were all learning experiences.

Maybe it sounds odd to be so proud of a grilled cheese. In truth, the satisfaction is 20% being able to achieve consistent results, and 80% witnessing the pleasure of others eating one I have made.

I don't think I've ever made one for myself...I couldn't be bothered, really. For me, the joy of cooking is cooking for other people.

I like making a grilled cheese with ham and tomato. That said, moisture removal and temperature equalization is of paramount importance.

For me, grilled cheese requires cast iron...nothing else is as good.

Synchronizing that point where the bread is golden and with a crispy edge on the outside, yet softer and yielding on the inside, and the cheese is just at the point of having flow...yes, the holy grail.

Bon Appétit,
Ian

Lunacie

have biscuit dough in tubes there, do you?

Cut biscuits in quarters, shake in a baggie of mixed sugar and cinnamon.
Put in pan. Melt butter and brown sugar and pour over top. Bake.
Flip pan onto plate and let rest for 10 minutes. Pull apart scrumptous bites.

It's really too much sugar and bread dough for my diabetic granddaughter
... but it's sooooo scrumptous. (insert drooling smiley face)

Two of the most essential qualities that define maturity, that is, what differentiates the adult from the child, are the following:

the understanding that actions result in consequences, and the associated willingness to accept and be responsible for the consequences of one’s actions
the ability to delay gratification

In grown human beings, lack of the above results in a variety of progressions and outcomes, ranging from those which are deemed self-destructive to those which are diagnosed as sociopathic.

They have a "guy" coming to look at it today, maybe I can reschedule around 330? Oh yea, sure, the valium will have worn off which defeats the purpose. I reschedule for 2 weeks out so someone can get off work to drive me, leave a message for the doctor saying I will need more valium and tell them they can call Radiology to confirm I am not scheming. All of that work for nothing? I guess I would be more mad if I was scheduled later and they didnt call me but they open at 6 which is when I arrived. They were nice enough about it but psychologically I was all prepared and now have to go through it all again.

was it a Coach Court Bag?

Coach...one of two brands I can think of off the top of my head that sullied their brand with substandard products so as to acquire a “larger market share.”

The other being Godiva.

Coach used to be the kind of place where a dyed-in-the-wool classicist could walk in and see piece after piece of timeless designs.

But I suppose a business will only be so big with such an approach.

Now Coach is fashionable, in the here-today, gone-tomorrow sense.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. :faint:

Just led my first meditation with a group of five people. Really wonderful experience. Things did go well, although it was far from perfect. But the most important thing is that with this specific group of kind people I dare to show vulnerability and dared to show when I wasn't sure about what to do. Where in the past I would have really beaten myself down about my imperfections, I am coming to a place where I can accept them. It feels good to be able to trust and let go of having to control everything. :)

Yep, power loss is my biggest personal concern.

I live in a large well built concrete and steal condo building that is built to withstand storms. Every window and sliding glass door is hurricane impact glass and all clad in cat. 5 serious locking metal hurricane shutters.

I also live on the 3rd. floor which is why I'm not too concerned with flood. My car is safely parked inland in an enclosed parking garage on the second floor.

I am not on the top floor so the roof isn't really my concern.

Storm is fast moving and not going to dump rain like in Houston. Expecting about 10-12 inches of rain between Saturday-Sunday.

Wow, that sounds like a law suit and doesn't make much sense. The owners run the H.O.A. and why they would not want to protect their own property as well as their tenants is beyond me. That's nuts.

Most buildings near me all have permanent fixed hurricane accordion shutters but I live very near the ocean. I believe its code the closer you are.

Most H.O.A.'S like mine even dictate when your shutters must be closed and locked in. They will even help and it's mandatory. They have also secured the grounds of items becoming possible missiles.

There's some mobile sound system in my town because of some yearly goings-on. Anyway, earlier they were blasting 90s hip-hop, and then they moved on to reggae. Now they're playing vintage soul, and right now, Wilson Pickett.

I'm putting on some clothes and going outside. It's feel-it-in-your-chest loud and with Wilson, you cannot go wrong.

And I've sobered up enough to make it across the street without incident.

So I went to move my car, and when I stepped out my upstairs neighbor (early 20s, female) was sitting with her brother, and they were smoking a joint. They tried to quickly hide it once they knew I was there.

I told them that I didn't care, but they might not want to be so obvious about it.

"Getting arrested for smoking weed isn't any fun." I said.

Lol. I drank a Mtn. Dew instead before they got hot. Only part of this Hurricane I planned for was my junk food necessities. Lost the ice cream but I am still sitting on some M&M's (plain & peanut), trail mix and chocolate covered raisins.

Storm has been hammering down on us all day. Lots of trees down and blocking the road in and out of our building. Doesn't matter much because without power the gate to come in and out won't open anyway.

I really feel good about myself! We noticed a big tree about to uproot and fall over. It was leaning and about to hit my 90 year old neighbor's car. Ran up to their condo and got the key and moved it.

Ten minutes later the tree fell over and is now on the car parked next to him. Didn't know who's car that was.

I wasn't always such a grump. :(

I think it was getting a job 3 years ago at a local casino...only to lose it VERY shortly after that slowly started the process of killing my perkiness. Gaining employment at the most wonderful establishment I've ever stepped foot into (a very lovely nursing home) a year later...only to once again loose the job quickly after...is what finally did me in.

I use to be quite fun and giggly and silly. People respected me more...I was enjoyable to be around and I enjoyed spreading love to everyone and trying to make them happy. I had such a genuineness about me...I was overly upbeat and child like, but it was so real.

Now I'm becoming more and more like a pile of smelly old socks! lol
/sigh...I miss the old fun me. I've been losing him slowly for years now.
I wonder if I'll ever get that side of me back...or if I'm doomed to forever head down this path I'm headed.

Is it really that cold? The weather here has been cooler than usual, but not
cold enough for jackets yet.

Friday I went grocery shopping and that store is always too warm for me,
when I got in the car it was super heated from the sun, and the change from
cool weather to hot weather triggered my heat exhaustion from several years
ago. I felt very sick, so stopped to buy a large iced tea and sat in front the fan
when I got home, sipping at my cold drink.

Spring and fall are usually difficult for me because of allergies and weather
patterns. This year summer only lasted about 3 weeks. :(

How's the weather today? Maybe it's something in the air that's got her on such edge?

It's cold weather today and was raining, either it's the weather that triggered such a fearful response (I doubt it tbh because Ebony has been outside in cold wet weather before and only gets mildly on edge when there's bad weather around), I'm wondering if it's her past traumas been haunting her last night because she's always hypervigilant when there's other cats nearby and I have known her to think Tigger's a strange cat even when she can smell her, it's like she still gets flashbacks back to whatever her life was like on the streets and she'll yowl and swipe at Tigger then realises it's Tigger and will start grooming Tigger to make up for yowl growl swipe at her, I can't know for sure though.

Going to google see what could help Ebony relax when she gets like that. Last night was the worst I have ever seen her, with reacting to things and assuming the scary Movement Monster is coming to get her :(

Nah, that couldn't be it. I avoided eating the ice cream for breakfast after your suggestion.

I think it's the other way around actually. The excitement from the storm caused impulsiveness which triggered me to purchase and consume lots of sugar which just added fuel to the impulse fire.

Storm is gone now and we are having a beautiful day today. Still no power and lots and lots of downed trees and destruction. We only got about 3 inches of rain but had wind gusts reported over 90 mph. It was a big storm and battered us hard for about 16 hours.

I heard a report on a news analysis show on the radio (NPR) where they were talking about the nature of the damage on the western side...and that it isn't just a loss of lines, but one of infrastructure...this is going to require the replacement of lines, transformers, substations, switch interconnects.

Some parts of the grid were 100 years old and were simply decimated.

And yes, there was talk of the rebuild taking weeks because of the amount of infrastructure that needs to be replaced *in addition* to the need to replace thousands of miles of lines.
