as an adjunct to d-amphetamine, i'm beginning trials of standardized extract of Bacopa monniera which is replete with psychoactive terpenoid saponins named "bacosides" and a few lactone sterols which are produced in the body via acid hydrolysis of triterpenoids.

it has been shown to enhance cognition, and to relieve anxiety as well as quell inflammation and calm seizure. it's an ayurvedic remedy that's been used for thousands of years.

it's pharmacology is still not completely understood, but is thought to interact with the biogenic amine 5-HT (serotonin) with a limiting effect. this would explain it's superior anxiolytic effect to lorazepam when tested in a double-blind placebo-controlled study of adults with DSM-IV anxiety, as well as it's effect on cognition and attention. it is a powerful antioxidant.

it is a diuretic, a mild vasoconstrictor, and high levels have shown anti inflammatory response superior to that of most corticosteroids.

research is still ongoing, and i'm using myself to test it here, i'll report any thing i notice to this thread. it has a solid reputation as a non-toxic nootropic, and it's anxiolytic effect without the usual amnesia and full on GABA depression of a common sedative like a benzodiazepine is quite novel, and has attracted much attention.

has anyone here used bacopa for longer than 12 weeks? i'd like your feedback here please! peak nootropic response was shown to be about 12 weeks into daily administration.

my dosage is B.I.D. P.O. 200mg capsules standardized extract, 20% bacoside content, and i take it morning and evening.

I took 100 mg. once a day for awhile, Life Enhancement brand, standardized to 20% bacosides A & B. It did absolutely nothing for me. Whether I wasn't taking a high enough dose or didn't stick with it long enough, I don't know, but it's hard to get enthusiastic about continuing to pop pills when they appear to have no effect whatsoever.

I would be interested in hearing about your experiences.
