I had heard that XR can increase your blood pressure. Have any of you had this effect. I went into my doc for my one month followup and my bp went down a bit. I was borderline at 130/78 then this last checkup I was at 117/72.

I started out with very low blood pressure - as in so low, they'd wonder how I could even get out of bed! It bumped up a bit the first two months, then returned to normal.

I personally feel like it makes my heart beat faster, but my doc said maybe the weight loss somehow makes me more aware of my heart beating.

My doc used to check my blood pressure and pulse rate every 2 weeks while I was on Adderall XR. It never effected my blood pressure (110/70) but did speed up my pulse a bit. Not to a dangerous level but my pulse was faster then it was before I started the meds.

Although I suspect some of the elevated pulse rate was nerves from being at the doctors. (I'm not a big fan of doctors) My pulse was always pretty normal at home even while on meds.

I had an echocardiograhm becasue my normal resting rate was at 51bpm blood pressue of 109/65 before Adderall and then it was 145/90 heart rate of 80 bpm after. A lot of this was caused by the anxiety that I had worrying about the effects that Adderall had on my heart. My heart rate and blood pressure has come down quite a bit, but not near what it was before.

Adderall is a stimulant of your central nervous system and that causes you to have elevated readings. They will come down, but just keep an eye on them.

I have definitely had heart-related symptoms. I just changed from 10 mg XR twice daily to 30 mg XR once a day.

I took my first dose yesterday morning at 8 am and didn't take ANYTHING else all day. When bedtime came around (1 in the morning), I could NOT get to sleep, so I drank a glass of wine. I drifted off to sleep--about 3 hours later I woke up cuz I had to pee...

As soon as I sat up in bed, my heart stopped beating...It felt like I swallowed a boulder and it was sinking, sinking, sinking into my chest...I walked casually to the bathroom (still no heartbeat, but the rest of my body felt okay because it hadn't become too oxygen-deprived yet) while the boulder sunk lower and lower and my whole body started to feel heavier and heavier...

I got to the counter, put my hands on top of it, and bent over. All of the sudden my body lurched forward and the rock started coming back up again. My heart BLASTED so hard that my ribcage shook. Everything went back to normal after that.

So yeah, needless to say, I've made an appointment with my Psychiatrist to have a medication change/adjustment...

(Incidentally...I HAVE had issues with my ticker before (I'm 22). When I was 20 or so, I went to my doctor because I was having chest pain. A chest x-ray revealed borderline enlargement of the pulmonary artery with a suggestion of Pulmonary Hypertension. Doesn't sound serious, does it? Hypertension is just another word for high blood pressure--so I didn't sweat it. A quick internet search and apparently that "Pulmonary" part makes the "hypertension" part a lot worse. "Pulmonary Hypertension" (PH) is a terminal illness where the person who has it slowly suffocates to death. The survival rate is 0%, and the average lifespan after diagnosis is about 7 years.

For the next week (while I awaited an echocardiogram) I began writing a will, began to cancel my wedding plans, and contemplated killing myself to get it over quickly. An echocardiogram later, and it turns out I DIDNT have PH...

A year later I was in the ER again with excrutiating chest pain and difficulty breathing. This doctor told me I most likely had a blood clot in my pulmonary artery. Went to the ER--paid to have a full-body CAT scan, EKG, tons of Vicodin, and a barium x-ray. Everything was fine--turns out I have a condition called Costochondritis, where the cartilage between my ribs randomly becomes inflamed--two bottles of steroids later, I was fine again.

Could this Adderall scare be another manifestation of a yet undiagnosed condition? Is there a connection? FIND OUT on the next episode of my dramatic life...

One's state of mind and level of anxiety have more effect on your blood pressure than Adderall ever will. When I first went in to see my family dr about a scrip for stimulants, I was so worried about my BP excluding me, that my BP was as high as it has ever been! Self fullfiling prophecy for sure! When I'm rushing, late for my doctors appointment, stuck in traffic, etc - my BP will be quite high, and when I'm calm, not worried about the appointment, arrived with lots of time, was listening to nice music on the way....totally normal, low BP - it doesn't even matter if I have taken my meds, or when. My BP has a stronger corelation to Traffic than it does to medication - stress kills, it's true!
Lower BP on stimulant meds is not as uncommon as you might think - my pdoc told me with my very first scrip that my BP might go down due to decreased anxiety from increased self confidence - and he was right!

While obviously this isn't the whole problem. I have to say I doubt the glass of wine helped matters any. Alcohol would just intensify any reaction you were already having.

Really? Why...? I thought since it's a CNS depressant it would lower ur heart rate and mitigate the effects of a stimulant...One thing's for sure--after Adderall and wine, I was DEHYDRATED. As I *JUST* found out, the most pronounced sign of dehydration is a rapid change in blood pressure and heart rate when you move from a horizontal position to a vertical one...uncanny!

I'm still seeing my Doc on Wednesday cuz I get short of breath sometimes...So I *really* hope there's nothing more serious at work here...
