Lamictal is an antiepileptic drug which is not at this time specifically indicated for any other disorder. Psychiatrists are prescribing it for people who have moderate to severe mood disorders, especially those with bipolar with predominant depression.
A lot of people who have ADD have concurrent mood disorders and energy level fluctuations. I've found that Lamictal is excellent as an adjunct to stimulant therapy and/or antidepressant therapy.
I have had very few side effects (unlike other meds of its type, hair falling out, acne, etc.) Also, unlike the other antiepileptics, Lamictal does not interfere with hormone production, so women who use hormonal contraception don't have to worry about getting pregnant due to problems in that area. However, since it's relatively new, there's not a lot of research about its effects on pregnancy.
