I was just recently diagnosed after a very hard time with my primary care doctor who basically acted like I was trying to pull one over on her. I tested with a shrink and it cost me $750 because my insurance would not cover testing...anyways, the good thing is that I now have a concrete ADHD diagnoses and I am curently trying to find the right med for me.
My doctor had me on Lexapro because she kept trying to tell me I was depressed and not ADHD so when we started with the ADHD meds the other doctor kept me on it. I explained that I did not like the way the Lexapro made me feel (like I was looking through dirty glasses) it took away all of my anxiety even the healthy kind that makes you want to clean and get off the couch.
To make a long story short I tried Ritalin but it made me drowsy and now I am on Adderall XR 30mg...I thought it was not working for me because I still did not have the results from it I was seeing on this board...until I stopped taking the Lexapro (with my docs permission). That stuff had me all out of whack!
Now I am seeing results from the Adderall and I feel like a new person..has anyone else experienced this?
Also I was wondering if anyone else has trouble taking your Adderall when it is hot and humid outside and you are spending alot of time outside. It really seems to make it feel like it is 150 degrees outside.
Thanks for listening to my rambling...you guys have been so helpful to me..

If your doctor kept you on Lexapro after you told her this, then she should lose her medical license. She sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

It happens. Adderall is a stimulant, it will raise your body temperature. Nobody likes spending a lot of time outside when it's hot and humid, regardless. Drink plenty of fluids, especially sports drinks like gatorade, don't overexert yourself, and get inside into air conditioning the instant you start to feel sick, lightheaded, dizzy, or nauseated.

I actually wrote up a post in regards to drinking fluid that contains electrolytes, as most sports drinks do, while on Adderall. After doing this all of my problems with feeling shaky or heart palpatations have all but gone.

I live in Texas were the humidity is 100% and the heat index reaches 110 degrees, so I can't tell if Adderall is making me more hot then when I am not on the meds. Take it easy outside in the heat if you just started taking Adderall. Your body has to adapt to the new substance and if you try and force it you will feel it.

Also I take Lexapro and Adderall together and it has been the only thing that has helped me. When I was on Lexapro by itself I felt like crap, but combined with the Adderall it has helped a lot.

There is nothing inhearantly wrong with taking an antidepressant like Lexapro with a stimulant. Just playing the Devil's advocate here, but I would guess that your doctor kept you on the Lexapro for a couple of reasons, the first being that it isn't a good idea to just quit taking an antidepressant - you should wean yourself off slowly to avoid any unpleasant effects (you can feel crappy, like you have the flu - some are bothered more by this than others). You told him that it took away ALL of your anxiety, including the "good" kind (I know what you mean b.t.w., I use the term "demotivating" for the way some SSRI's make me feel), so presumably this anxiety would come back if the Lexapro was withdrawn, and given that stimulants can increase anxiety, your doctor may have been concerned about precipitating a panic attack - which isn't as much fun as it sounds ;-)
I'm glad you finally got the meds sorted out - it's a hassle at the best of times! Medicine is a science (you listening Tom?) but it's not an exact science, and I doubt that it ever will be - people are not exact either!
