My therapist runs about $80-120 per hour session. They vary the cost based on ablity to pay. My perscribing doctor who regualtes my meds is $85 per a half hour visit. Luckily my insurance helps pay for both.

I think the costs can vary. My doctor (a psychiatrist who specializes in drug treatments, as opposed to therapy), charged me something like $450 for a one-hour evaluation, and then 20 minute follow-up visits are $145. He only accepts cash or credit card payments on the spot - if you have insurance, it's up to you to go hassle with the insurance company for reimbursement.

I suppose his fees are on the high side of things. At least when he suggested I try Strattera, he was able to give me a month's worth of samples, so I didn't have to go out and buy the drug. (I stopped Strattera after 2 weeks because I hated it). Now, I'm on Adderall, but he couldn't give me any free samples because I don't believe they allow doctors to sample triplicate prescription drugs.

My first dose of Adderall was free...I got a 30-pill supply of Adderall XR 10mg...you can order it from Shire Corporation I'm pretty sure (they are the ones who make brand name Adderall). You just have to take an online survey to activate the reimbursement otherwise when you go to the pharmacy they'll come back and say you have to pay...

I have an excellent source of medical insurance, so I'm not sure if I qualify, to even put my two cents in...
My 'therapist' and my regular MD Doc, average $15 bucks per session. Considering I have to see both, every three months, it's not that bad of a deal.

Trademark Adderall costs me $20 monthly, and the generic would cost $13, if I were to purchase it.

Just giving you another 'viewpoint' of cost, as far as what it takes to put ADD/HD on temporary 'hold', since it isn't curable, lol !!

The out of pocket expense in the midwest for seeing a psyshrink is about $150 per visit for someone who is good.
In my experience most medical insurance will never cover more than 50% of the cost....unless it's an HMO or some awesome program like Nova is on where you pay a $15 copay each time.

I agree with Nova's point...the cost of not getting treatment is actually more than the out of pocket expense of getting treatment.

My experience has been that the managed care companies set the going rate.
