Hi everybody! I am so glad to have found this board. Sometimes having add can make me feel really alone. Anyway I have a long story but I will just start with one question. Has anyone experienced hair loss while taking wellbutrin? My Dr. took me off of prozac and put me on wellbutrin about 2 mo. ago. About 3 weeks after starting it I have had consistant major hair loss. I also take 30 mg a day of adderall. Plus, I am really grouchy!! Help!
Thanks in advance

Merritt: Welcome to the Forums...it is nice to have you here...we invite you to tell us a little about yourself on our introductions thread.....:)

Personally I've never experienced hair loss with wellbutrin...and I've been on this med for quite a while now....(and have lots of hair fortunately)....however, when I was on medications for bipolar disorder, tegratrol and depakoate, oh my God, did I EVER lose hair on those meds....Does your Doc know about your hair loss? Perhaps he can decrease your dose a bit.....or suggest something else.....

Please keep posting and you will get lots of support here:)

I haven't experienced any more hair loss on the Wellbutrin. I think my loss of hair is caused by my BC pills. I am now on a different brand and a lesser dose and I have noticed my hair is not falling out as much. I'll keep an eye on my situation and post more later.

I, too, am having hair loss. I didn't really think much about it, as I don't actually see hair in the sink, on the pillow, etc. However, as of the last few months, which is how long I've been on 300mg of Wellbutrin XL, the hair at the front and top of my head is much thinner.
I stopped taking it today, as I don't think it does that much for me anyway. Does anyone know if this is reversible with a discontinuation of the med? Also, I have read that you should gradually come off of this med, but I do not want to go get another prescription just to stop. Any idea what kind of side effects I might watch for?

Hair loss is fairly rare, but I guess, not unheard of. I'd ask your Dr about the reversability of the problem - I would think it would only be temporary???
Abrupt discontinuation would probably give you flu like symptoms, but since wellbutrin has a long half life I don't think it will be very bad. It's always best to taper off slowly.

Greg

I'm not on Wellbutrin but am experiencing hair loss. And I am thinking about switching to Wellbutrin.......

Cool! I can be bald before 50! No more walking out the door with "mad scientist hairdo syndrome" !!! Woohoo!

Sadly, hair loss is a fact of life for many of us - blame testosterone and genitics. I wouldn't worry about Wellbutrin making it worse - this side effect is very rare - it's not listed on the drug PI sheet and every side effect experienced during trials is reported, even if it's just as frequent a side effect for the placebo group.
I suspect anxiety to be the culprit wrt hair loss, more than the drug, but I'm just guessing.
