I'm back in school - and i'm very frustrated. I don't know if this issue I have is part of ADD, an LD - or just part of who I am.

I've always had trouble comprehending written information. I have to read and re-read and then, come up with an example - to be able to realld comprehend/understand all the information.

When I study - it takes me ages to get through an article. I usually read it, then read and highlight, the read and write notes. But, because of time restraint, I'm skipping the first read.
I'm taking a summer class - which is only 8 weeks long and LOTS of articles to read. We have tests every 2 weeks - the first 2 weeks, we had 24 articles to read and be able to apply. This group of 2 weeks, it's only 12 articles, but many of them are 20-30 pages.

Does any one else have this problem of comprehension? If so, do you think it's part of ADD, an LD or just part of who you are?

oh - also, I'm on Adderall - which works well for me. I do take it for studying.

And, any suggestions on being able to comprehend faster??

Thanks, everyone!!

I have the same problem and I know exactly how you feel. I believe this is part of being ADD. The only thing I can tell you is to work on outside factors. Read a lot and when you do FORCE yourself to focus and comprehend. Sleep, eat and exercise well and stay away from street drugs. Take time at night to think back on how to get through life with ADD and how well you did.

What helps me is thinking that there are people in this world that are in a wheelchair, are blind, can't speak or hear, have some kind of horrible disease, live in a poor third world country or have ADD. We are not alone. Force and push yourself through things because at the end we have more will, motivation and appreciation than 'normal' people. You already know that chaos is a gift ;).

Thanks, DreamSound!
I appreciate your response. I actually already do most of what you have said - so it's nice to confirm what I have been doing.
A great thing about me is that I never give up.

I'm actually going for my master's degree, but this comprehension thing has always been so difficult. It's not as huge of a deal when I don't have so much to read (likein undergrad), but this class i'm in, the prof has assigned a lot. Nothing I can do about it will change how much we have to read, so I just keep plugging away at it.

I just wish it was a little bit easier.

Thanks, again DreamSound!

Thanks for the suggestion, Lipz. I haven't tried testbook on tape. but, I don't do well with auditory learning, unless there is a visual component in combination. Plus, my prof uses articles, not books.
I think I'll see what mccoffee's SQ3R method it.
