I have a confession to make...
not that I don`t feel they are irrelevant...
but I havn`t set up an appointment with my advisor in the Disability Resource Centre yet...
It`s annoying me... because I DO want to do better this year, and I DO see the value in it.
I`m wondering why I just keep putting it off?
Arrgh... then the guilt trip starts in.
anyone else who can relate to this?
I am frustrated at being regarded as irresponsible.
Do you think it is reasonable to ask my advisor to keep tabs on me, since I tend to forget or put it off without meaning to?
Have you received accomodartions from the school before or will this be the 1st time?
I had an awful time last semester initiating accomodations. I kept putting it off. I finally emailed the LD department asking what type of documentation I needed for the AD/HD. I was so aggrivated when the guy answered my email back telling me to come in to his office.
Why couldn't he just answer my question in the email?
To me he really didn't understand Adult AD/HD...
I realized that a lot of the reason that I avoided setting up accomodations had very little to do with the accomodations themself. It had a lot more to do with anxiety.

You might be suffering "paralysis of the will"...
Do you have a watch alarm?
Try this: look at your schedule, find a time when you WILL have time free to go set up your appointment (whether you want to or not is another matter). Set your watch alarm for near the beginning of that time block. When it goes off, you will know why, and you will be reminded to set up your appointment.
Now remember, you only want to have to do this once, because it's clearly unpleasant, so ask them DURING THE SAME CALL/VISIT if they would please do something to help remind you of your appointment. Otherwise, you might miss it and be back to square one.
If they can't remind you, then maybe this is the time to experiment with asking another person's help...

Slowpoke: What's the fear about?? Any awareness there if it's something specific that's keeping you stuck?
Can you ask a trusted friend to stand beside you while you make the call?
That is IF you want to make the call....Are you having second thoughts about asking for accommodations? If you are, nothing wrong with that.....and it's never too late either.....:)
