Thanks, EZ Zuleika 07-31-05, 08:16 PM It depends on whether the track you get is the track you like. And a million other factors. While the idea of moving to a new job/location every two years is a good one for lots of us, keep in mind that the foreign service is a government job with few opportunities for creativity and lots of opportunities for mindless, routine rules and paperwork. It sounds awesome in some ways, but are you going to think that when you're punching a clock on the endless visa line in Guangzhou? I think you (like the rest of us) have to sort out your strengths and weaknesses and see where you'd be strong in the FS, and where you'd wouldn't to see if it would suit you. pembroke 07-31-05, 09:27 PM i just took the foreign service exam, because i would love to live somewhere overseas -- the new culture, the different experiences.....sign me up. i grew up in Munich as an army brat. i love that city, and long to return, even if it is just briefly. the army slogan while i was growing up: "you're here to preserve a way of life -- yours." and i really believe that. foreign service work has more going for it than just being a mindless government drone.... $0.02.... |
