I've noticed many people are feeling the side effect of waking up throughout the night many times. This has been the worst effect Strattera has had on me thus far. I toss and turn for an hour or so, and then I just give up on sleeping. I also get VERY hot throughout the night and I sweat and get very uncomfortable.

What have you guys been doing to combat this sleeplessness? It's very hard to be productive when you have little-to-no sleep. Would breaking up the dosage work?

I currently take 40mg at 11pm at night. Once, and only once, I took a dosage at 10am and it was terrible. I felt my energy just totally drop and I felt like I was going to pass out.

Whats nice about having one dose a day is you can play with the time table a little. For instance if I couldn't take it before going to work and couldn't take it before going to bed I would try around 4pm. to see how well that time worked for me.

Walmart has an excellant brand of aromatherapy sleep aides that work wonders for my family. Its called zzzztherapy and is very cheap. Its a mixture of chamomille and lavendar we all use it and start by spritzing our bed with the spray and then taking a warm bubble bath and ending with the lotion. Its a relaxing ritual and gets our mind focused on sleeping. I don't know if its the scent or the ritual but it works.

Benadryl is an excellant sleep aide, Tylenol pm works well and you can always speak with your doctor as I'm sure many ADD'ers on new meds have difficulty sleeping at first perhaps he/she can prescribe a light sedative that won't leave you groggy in the morning.

Good luck,

I take 15 mg of Ambien. Works most of the time if the brain isn't working overtime. It will leave you groggy if you don't get 8 hours.

I only use the sleep aid on day I work.

I know this post is a couple days old, but I was curious as to what the last poster meant exactly.

Do you take Ambien and Strattera at night before you go to bed? Do you still feel the theraputic benefit throughout the next day?

In the nursing enviroment Ambien is usually given about an hour before bedtime to ensure its entered your blood system and working when you are ready to go to bed. Most people do complain of being groggy if they do not get a full 8 hours of sleep.

I'd try Tylonel PM before I tried Ambien as it has less side effects if you can get away with it.

We gave our son his Strattera dose before bedtime so he slept thru the side effects and it was in his sytem full force during school hours. We did notice that around 7-8 pm he'd get very lethargic which was ok with us lol.

I know this post is a couple days old

If a thread applies to you then please feel free to post. I don't care if its ten years old if you have something to share or ask then post and bring it to the forefront so that other new members have a chance to learn something. :D

I was taking my Strattera at 11pm too. I had the same symptoms of waking multiple times through out the night and night sweats. I switched to taking it in the AM and now I sleep through the night without waking. I am also taking 10mg of Adderall XR in the morning. This seems to counter the afternoon sleepiness of taking the Strattera in the AM. For me , it is a very good combination. As I have mentioned before that Strattera helps the delivery of dopamine to the pre-frontal cortex and the Adderall increases the quantity of dopamine. Together they operate really smooth without the ups and downs. My PDOC is seeing this in a bunch of patients.

Lilly should consider making Strattera a time released medication. This might help to eliminate all of the side-effects people are experiencing. My side-effects usually occur within 2-3 hours of taking my dose.

Strattera XR is extended release I'm pretty sure. I'll have to use my google again today woohoo!!!!

The thing is every body is made differently so every body is going to react differently. You've just got to kind of play with it a little (the med dosing time that is) and if that doesn't work speak with your doctor.

I just started taking straterrrea 80mg last wendsay. It actually made me sleepy in he beginning but this is monday and I've been awake about 36 hours now. so i'm kinda wtf mate? but it's ok I think the straterra helps me go to sleep when I need it and stay awake when I need it. i also take 300 mgs of welbutrin XL

I solved the problem by taking it in the morning.

my doctor recommened taking my full dose (40mg x 2) at 9pm...

i have had the same problems with night sweats, to battle this i would keep about 3-4 tshirts next to my bed because about every 2 hours i would wake up drenched. changing shirts helped me get back to sleep quickly and comfortably... but the side effect would not go away

so i ended up splitting my dose up which slightly helped, 40mg at 9pm and 40mg in the morning..

but as some people have already mentioned, timing is the key, if i take my medicine about 3-5 hours before i plan to goto bed i can take a full dose (all 80mg) and sleep comforably..

i still sweat for a few hours after taking the strattera even while awake, especially when doing any kind of physical activity, but its much more bearable than having to wake up multiple times at night...
