First, I want to apologize if this has been covered in any previous threads. I'm at work right now, where Internet use is limited, so haven't had time to research, but wanted to ask this question and hopefully get some advice before I talk to my doc.

Quick background: I was diagnosed with ADHD in mid-May and started taking Ritalin (the regular, short acting version.) I had to discontinue this as I experienced horrible, nearly suicidal bouts of depression when rebounding from the Ritalin. I also tried Focalin with a similiar effect.

My doc then started me on Concerta, which seemed to work well. A dose lasts about five hours and provided good focus, attention span, etc.

I was still concerned with feeling kind of down at times, so asked my doc to add Wellbutrin. I've been previously diagnosed with dysthmia (sp?) and had been on Zoloft and Wellbutrin for that, with decent results. Since I knew Wellbutrin can also have a positive affect on ADHD I thought if I was going to be on an antidepressant, it'd be the best one.

I started it last week and immediately (same day I started) began experiencing anxiety, something I've never had a problem with. I feel constantly nervous and worry obsessively that something bad is about to happen - that my husband will leave me, or I'll make a mistake at work and get fired.

Is the Wellbutrin causing this? I'm on 150 mg daily (it's Wellbutrin XL) and am supposed to go to 300 mg. tomorrow. The doc mentioned that some people feel agitated when starting Wellbutrin, but it wears off.

I'm also taking 18 mg. of Concerta, twice or three times per day, separated by five hours.

To further complicate matters, I don't like my doc and am trying to find another. In the meantime, though, I want to correct this and stop feeling so anxious and pessimistic.

EDITED as I forgot to ask: is it possible that methylphenidate is not the best stimulant for me, since I've had bad experiences with Ritalin, Focalin, and now Concerta? Should I consider a switch to Adderall?

Wellbutrin causes anxiety in a lot of people. It acts like a stimulant, so when combined with the concerta, it could certainly make things worse. If you have so much bad experience with ritalin, it wouldn't be a bad idea to try adderall or adderall xr...but if concerta is working for you, maybe try another antidepressant instead.

I had good results with Paxil and Adderall, though Paxil is probably too strong for anything less than a major depression. Zoloft plus Adderall or concerta might also work well, as Neuroangel suggested.

Wellbutrin, alone, gave me severe insomnia which resulted in anxiety and paranoia. Started on 150 mgs, never made it to 300 mgs. However, some people love it and sometimes the side effects diminish with time.
