Ok...It been more than 9 years....yes, NINE YEARS :eek: since I let myself take a vacation. When I'm at work, I just have never felt that it was the right time to take time off. Its like...I almost feel GUILTY about taking vacation time.

If I was going to take a vacation somewhere...any suggestions?

Favorite vacation spots that that I went to before I got married were:

* Vail, CO
* Florida
* Juan Les Pins (when I was a wee little one)
* California

Big ,
One of my favorite palces in New Braunfels , near SanAntonio , Like to get in a tube and ride down river , very relaxing , Havent took kids yet but thinking this summer will be a blast , they can finally swim good and i think they would love it . Have some fun water slides to for family . If you go have a blast , But even you dont go anywhere at all , just have fun .

We usually go to visit family. Sometimes we take a side trip and go to places like museums or parks. We took the girls to see Mammoth Cave in Kentucky one year... note to everyone.. never go when it's 95 degress out.

They have also been up to Fort Michelamacinac (sp?) and several other places in Michigan. Sometimes we just take day trips to places like Warren Dunes or to Comerica Park to see Tigers play. Hubby and girls went for a ride through the locks when they went to Minnesota in 97.

Just anything to spend time with the girls. :)

if you want "geography/geology"
you know, into parks and camping,
there are some very cool places in canada,
not to mention your dollar would go further!

Wow big, I got over that feelin long ago!!! Once use it or lose it policies became the vogue, I vowed that I would no way lose it.

So ...
DisneyWorld
Backpacking anywhere on the Appalachian Trail
Camping (I have been to Alogonquin in Ontario a few times, and yes, it is wonderful)
and this year we are going on a camping excursion in New Brunswick , Canada after being invited by Cyndy and her family. I have always wanted to see the Bay of Fundy and it's 40 foot tidal swing and now I am going to!! Seriously Big, listen to Jimmy Buffett and, 'Take a Holiday'.

Any vacations planned for the winter months? Well, for those of us up North or in cold states. Or, well, in warm states and want to go skiing?

Chicago for Christmas! First time in 23 years! Meet the in laws-drink with the in laws, laugh-these are neat people! With a little mafia on the side!

RADDmom you better be "packing" when you meet the inlaws if mafia is in the picture. I have a nice piece for you, serial number is, of course, filed off!

I am going nowhere for Christmas. But I will be going to Texas in March to spead the rest of my mom's ashes...that is if the bluebonnets are out this year!

Pick some for me! I love bluebonnets! I am a Texan Anyhow-have certificate. Sorry about your mom. But to be with the bluebonnets, how wonderful. My parents are native texans.

Uncle Louie is pretty old and not an accountant at the carwash anymore. We wonder if there will be a pillowcase at the Italian Catholic wedding reception. Those are the best! I will be packing, my son, former Marine, expert with m-16!

I was born there, moved to Pennsylvaina when I was 11. I have hated it since I got here. There is no place like home!

All depends on what sort of vacation you like... if you're into the grandeur of the natural world....

Canadian rockies national park areas. Dreaming of going again after decades, it's still with me.

The coastal redwoods in California and into Oregon, awe-inspiring amy time of year. Fits in nicely with a trip to Yosemite, but you have to do that in spring or early summer while the waterfalls are at their best. Don't limit yourself to the valley, drive the pass and glacier point roads. It's well worth it. Great hikes for people that like to walk to the scenery, from short waterfall hikes to peak scrambles that make half dome look tiny way down there in the valley...

Stargazing in a campground way up in the Sierras out of Bishop on a moonless night in summer.... AMAZING. And plenty of alpine hiking within just a few miles, and great vistas in short STRAIGHT UP trails to the pacific crest.

Heard New Zealand's great, but haven't actually made it there yet.

San Diego...Sea World, San Diego Zoo, tidepooling, a short drive to Universal studios. The first zoo I remember going to was the San Diego zoo, and while it hasn't quite ruined all other zoos for me it's come close.

For caving, there are a few small but exquisite caves on the south side of the Sierras near Jackson.

San Francisco--enough to keep you busy for several days just in the natural history and art museums in the park, plus the maritime museum and Pier 39. The Lark in the Morning is a must-see for musicians. The zoo is quaint and has its own share of uniquenss.... Last time we were there it was migration time for the penguins so they were all endlessly zooming around their moat in sync. It was also the only time I've ever seen a meerkat barf... Ok, so maybe that wasn't the best ad for the zoo, but it was another memorable moment! :)

For winter vacations, I love California beaches--Mendicino, Pismo Beach (monarch migration is in winter), Santa Barbara (where the coast current keeps it a little warmer than the northern coast.). ... or Squaw Valley. Even if you aren't into skiing, Squaw Valley has an awesome snow tubing course and a rope to pull you back up between runs. It's great for kids of all ages. I don't mind hiking steep trails if it's going to get a great view at the top, but tubing is a whole lot more fun when you don't have to wear yourself out getting back to the top between runs. If you dislike heights, don't go to Squaw Valley.... there's a dramatic tram ride up to the snow tubing area.
