First, I have this really gross side affect on adderall, it has made me very regular if you know what I mean, like 3 times a day regular:rolleyes: . Also I think I might have anxiety issues, before I started taking 20 mg of xr a day I use to be a very bad nail bitter. But since I have been on adderall of a while now I don't seem to do it any more. Then I went on one of those adderall vactions that everyone tailks about for a week when I did not have school. Within 3 days I was bitting my naiks down to nothing again. Could this be anxiety or just a normal college kid thing? Thanks!!

I don't know anything about the regular part, sorry, can't help you there!
How long have you been on Adderall? If you're still pretty new to Adderall, maybe your body still needs time to adjust to it and it will go away.

As for the nail biting - I think when you take the adderall - you get focused and don't think about biting your nails. When off adderall, you're not as focused, maybe even bored and bite your nails - just a guess.

With the regularity issue, I wouldn't worry about it. While it could create potential social problems, there's nothing wrong with it from a health perspective. It may even be beneficial, as it allows your body to eliminate toxins better. If it really bothers you, try taking Immodium, it's an over-the-counter anti-diarrheal agent...it's basically an opiate-like drug that doesn't pass the blood-brain barrier, and so should be safe to take with Adderall. Cutting back on your daily fiber intake, if it is excessive, might also help, but don't cut back too far, fiber is good for you.

As for the biting nails, since it was a pre-existing condition, which went away when you took the Adderall, and then came back when you stopped taking it, I wouldn't worry. Just consider the lack of nail-biting to be an added benefit of Adderall.

Adderall can increase anxiety or it can decrease it - depends on the person. w.r.t. your nailbiting, I'd say it was probably decreasing your anxiety. This may or may not be related to your regularity, as well. I find that my gut is greatly influenced by stress (Iritable bowel syndrome, with stress as one of the big "triggers") and with stimulant meds, my IBS doesn't bother me as much. So I'd think it entirely possible that Adderall might have this effect - but who really knows. I'd bet that after a while, as your body gets used to Adderall, this problem will stabalize.

The reason it makes you regular is because Adderall is a diuretic. Since it puts your body on overdrive, it speeds up all its functions--heartbeat, movement, mental acuity, and digestion!

You also probably pee a lot more when you take your Adderall than when you don't...Same thing--it flushes your body out faster... The bad side is since it pushes everything through you more quickly, there might be less time for the bad stuff to get collected to exit your body, and less time for your body to absorb nutrients...? Does anyone know about this?

So...make sure you drink a LOT of water and REMIND yourself to eat 5-6 small meals every day even if you don't feel like it to keep everything moving through.

You've got it backwards. By flushing things out faster, it gets rid of toxins faster. Letting urine and fecal matter sit around longer is actually worse, because it gives more time for toxins to sit around.

It's pretty straightforward to me. Take it - no symptoms, don't take it - symptoms return. Maybe you shouldn't go on vacations. Talk to your doctor about that. Adderall definately seems to work for you. That's a good thing. Now you merely need to fine tune it. A high percentage of people don't benefit from it at all.

As for the regularity part, oh how I wish I was in the bathroom only 3 times a day. It was like I lived in there. I've read that "upset stomach" is a side affect of Adderall. But it's one of the conditions that goes away after a couple of weeks when your body gets used to the drug. I wouldn't know since I didn't make it that long. It just wasn't the right medication for me.

Thanks for all of the info, I'm hoping my new Doc will prescribe Adderall, ritalin quit working.

As for being "regular", I spent most of my life like that except for the few months in my early 30's when I took Zoloft, It had the opposite effect. I MUCH PREFER "regular" as annoying as it is. However it does decrease absorption of some nutrients. Extra vitamins wouldn't hurt. Also, make sure that certain foods aren't triggering extra response. Avoiding high fat foods helped me.
