 When I was in grade school, I took Ritalin to help focus. I was not hyperactive, if anything I was non-active. The Ritalin did help get my grades up. I stopped using it in the 10th grade. After graduating I did not go to school for several years. Recently I have started going to college. So far, I have finished 3 semesters. The first two I did fine. I made A’s and B’s, and had little trouble studying. This last semester was not so good. I had allot of trouble staying focused class. What really scares me is how much trouble I had remembering things. It was almost as if the things I told myself to remember were the things that I would forget. Anyone have any ideas????
I know this is the Men's section, and I appoligize in advance but this just sounded so much like me I wanted to say something, lol, call me impulsive...
I was only just diagnosed ADD a month or so ago after being treated for "depression" for 6-7 years. I wasn't diagnosed ADD or ever suspected of it because I was not hyperactive either. I never took Ritalin in grade/high school, but in college I too started great. I went through two years of excellent grades then started to decline. After almost failling my third year (actually dropping a few classes) because of attention problems (innacurate notes because I couldn't keep up with lectures because my mind was wondering) and memory problems (I'd remember the small insignifigant things and forget the important details)
I started taking Ritalin after my diagnosis and it really helped. I am able to stay focused in class enough to take accuarate notes and study *almost* normally. So even though I'm not superb at school, I'm better than before. My suggestion would be to find a doc (same one???) about being ADD and getting treated.

Thanks for your advice. So do you take Ritalin or Strattera? I would love to get back on some type of prescription, because I know it would help. The problem I have is that I do not have medical insurance right now. The only coverage I have right now is through veteran’s assistance, and they do not cover things like ADHD.
I'm on Ritalin, and even though I have insurance they only cover my visits, not my perscriptions. Fortuantely Ritalin is not that expensive and even as a college student I can afford it. Your insurance should still cover docs visits no matter what they're for because your regular doc can see you for ADHD, you don't necissarily have to see a specialist... check it out. Plus your doc can turn you on to some programs that could help you with prescription coverage. After you talk to your doc there will be more options for you...
