Hi everyone. I will be starting Adderall tomorrow and I'm a bit nervous about it. I was taking Strattera for 2 weeks and I couldnt hack the side effect of increased heart rate. My heart rate would hit 100-110 for about and hour or two and caused a lot of discomfort. my psych said that was not a common side effect at all. I have the exact same reaction when taking a decongestant. Now I know that Adderall is an amphet which is known to increase heart rate. my psych said usually just by a few beats per minute. she is starting me on 5 mg and told me to take only half of it for the first couple of days to see how my heart rate does. has anyone taken 2.5 - 5mg and had any results. it seems like a really low dose. also, have any of you had problems with tachycardia while on Adderall? Thanks.
Trey
I've had a slight increase but certainly not enough to cause any discomfort. But I'm also on 100 Mg/day of Strattera so I may not be a great person to give you advice.

5mg of Adderall should not cause any serious or dangerous side-effects, if that's the question. I too was started on 5mg for my first week just to make sure that there wouldn't be any serious side effects. It is entirely possible that you may experience side effects from Adderall, but I would hope that at a low dose, you'll notice them and be able to make a decision on whether or not to continue to use the drug before they become dangerous.
It is entirely possible that you will experience these side effects. Adderall is a stimulant and will increase your heart rate. Furthermore, if you experienced these side effects from a decongestant, which I assume was pseudoephedrine, Sudafed, then it is possible that you will experience them with Adderall, as amphetamine and ephedrine/pseudoephedrine are chemically related.

I have had problems with a speedy heart beat on other med's. Not on adderall.
I can feel the pep in my system but not that heart palp feeling.
A sort of jitteryness, but in my whole body and not any heart problems at all.
