I have a very nice desk in my room that would be great for doing homework, but the problem is that my room is such a disaster zone I can't even go in there except for when I am getting dressed for school, going on the internet or typing up something for class:faint: . I know that if I could just clean my room and keep it clean I could spend more time in it. I might even be able to produce better grades because I would be less distracted if I went in there to study. It is so bad at this point that I don't even sleep in there!! When I lived in the dorms and had a roomate I was much better because I know that it would scare them if they saw how I reall lived. It just seems so wierd because my mom keeps the rest of the house so clean, and then there's my room, it looks like it belongs in another house!! I've relocated myself to the couch which is now my bed I haven't slept in my room for 7 months!!:( I also do my homework on the couch or in the kitchen but I get side tracked really easily. If anyone has any helpful hints that they could share with me about cleaning my room I would love it, I'll try anything to be able to use my bedroom again!!

Hey, I'm the same way, I do sleep in my bed, but that's all my room is used for, lol...
I would also like some great tips, but perhaps this is a question to be tackled in the household section as you are no longer in a dorm?

Here's a link to the household tips and tricks forum...

there may be some old threds that help you out, serch through a little if you're so inclined... or post there and some veteran ADDers could give you excellent tips, lol

here's a post of tips for general stuff around the house...

there were some ideas in there that helped me out when I joined the forums... good luck and let me know if you find something that works lol!!!

The easiest way for me to clean a room that looks like a tornado has hit it is to back myself into a corner armed to the teeth with everything I am going to need to do the job right. I turn the radio up, attach two large plastic bags of different colors into my belt and off I go.

Anything that needs laundered gets thrown out the door. Anything that is clean and stuffed animals go on the bed (the trick is to find your floor). Any trash goes into the black plastic bag, anything needing filed for later or put up goes in the white trash bag (now you know why I use two different colors).

Once everything is off the floors I swap the bags taking the black one straight out to the trash and setting the white one on the bed. Get new trash bags and start with your surfaces, shelves, desk, dresser, etc.

Once you have your floor and surfaces clean you can start filing and putting things in their place, get rid of anything you don't use or need at this time.

Wash and hang your clothes right away, wash and clean your bedding, remake your bed and display stuffed animals whatever on there.

It sound harder then it is. I don't spend a lot of time looking at the mess I just resign myself to the fact that i need to clean it, go in with everything I need and don't stop to even eat until I've finished. When your hungry you tend to work faster. ;)

After that keeping your room clean should be easier with some organization.

Keep a kichen size trash can and bags by your desk that way you can just empty the trash can and add a new liner without having to remember to put the trash can back.

Keep a large clothes hamper in your closet so you don't throw clothes on the floor any more.

Force yourself to put things away immediatly after you are done with it. FORCE!!!!

I've had to attack my daughter's room like this many many times finally we came up with a cleaning schedule that worked for her attention span.

Monday-take dirty clothes to laundry room and put clean clothes away.
Tuesday-take out trash whether it needs it or not.
Wednesday-change sheets
Thursday-Dust and clean windows, pictures etc
Friday-Vacuum

She uses Saturday and Sunday to catch up in case she has fallen behind but one task a day doesn't overwhelm her busy 3rd grade life.

Good luck
