I was wondering if there was an interaction with vicodin and adderall?
I currently take 25mg of adderall twice a day and i just broke my leg and was given norco which is 10mg of hydrocodone and 325mg of tylenol.

I took my last dose of adderall at around 5:00 pm yesterday and today it is around two and i am afraid of taking the pain meds with the adderall. The perscription says to take 1-2 pain pills every 4-6 hours but i am scared there will be an interaction with these two meds.

I didnt take any adderall this morning so i havent had any for about 16 hours. Is this enough time for the adderall to be out of my system so i can take the pain meds.

P.S. I tried calling my doc but he is out of town, as usual, and i dont really feel like calling the hospital and bother them with this question.

I got a scrip for Vicodin a few weeks ago (I have kidney stones). I informed the doc I was on Adderall, but he didn't say I couldn't take them both. However, when my kidney stones start moving - there's no use in me focusing on anything (because I was in so much pain) - so I didn't take Adderall.

The best idea is to call your pharmacist. They can tell you for sure.

did the pharmacist who dispensed the pain medication also know that you are on Adderall?

when i wrenched my lower back a few weeks ago i took both codeine, and tylenol with muscle relaxant as well as the dexedrine. i didn't notice any weird stuff happening.

I didnt get it from a regular pharmacy. I just got a couple from the E.R. I dont go see a ortho until Thursday. I guess that 20-24 hours between adderall xr and the vicodin is enough time. Ill give it a try cause it hurts like crazy

You should be OK - I don't beleive that they interact - but I'm not a medical pro of any kind. Call the pharmacist where you get your Adderall - they will be able to tell you with 100% certainty. Sorry to hear about your leg.

Opiates and amphetamines don't interact in any life-threatening way, from what I know (not being a doc--didn't Gregster say call the doc or pharmacist? OK, then). But, they may create a euphoric feeling beyond what you'd expect from either mediacation alone. In addition, the amphetamines may blunt the dopey, depressent effect of the opiate but should not effect its pain-killing properties.

Also, 24 hours is plenty time to wash most of the amphetamine from your system.

I make sure my doctor is aware of all other meds I am on when I get prescribed a new med. But for interaction and timing advice I speak to the man in charge of meds-my Pharmacist. He'd know more about meds and their interactions then your GP.

It doesn't interact, cause if it did, I would of been the first to know.

I've taken Hydrocodeine (Lortab/Vicoden same dosage schedual as you) with 20 mg of adderall and it's not going to hurt you. However, I found that the Adderall was barely noticable under the strong depressant effects of the hydrocodeine.

I was the oppisite, the aderall 30mg 2x + 20mg early evening worked fine but I had to take 40mg Morphine to controll my pain. but then again I've had 3 back surgeries in the past 23 years and have built quite a tollerance to classII narcotics.

I am taking Adderall XR (extended release) 20 mg for A.D.D. I just started 3 days ago. I am also taking Hydrocodone 7.5 mg 3x a day for my back pain. My Dr. said that it was ok to take both. I let him know that I didn't want to go out like Elvis. He assured me I would be ok because the Adderall works with the nervous system vicoden doesn't. Or something to that effect. Note hadn't taking my adderall yet :). Just to be sure I asked the pharmisist and he said the same thing. I have noticed that when I take my Pain meds it makes my Adderall stronger. I should say the feeling stronger. Not my focus and such. The Dr. did say that Adderall XR only stays in your system 8hrs however I still feel it working up to 15hrs later. Last night I got a rapid hear rate and fast shallow breathing. Not bad enough for me to freak out. I walked my heart rate down with slow relaxed breathing. I feel fine today haven't taking my pain meds yet but do have a cramp or (mussle pull feeling) on my left thigh. Those are the only side effects I feel. Adderall has already started working first dose. My wife I M'd me at work and all I could say is WOW. So this is what normal feels like......who knew. My only worrie is the Sudden death/Black box warning. I know its less than 1% but I'm sure that 1% said the same thing. Sorry for the long winded post. First time on after learning I had A.D.D. Well I guess I always knew. Thank you for all your posts you helped answer a lot of questions. YES IT IS OK TO TAKE YOUR PERSCRIBED DOSE OF PAIN MEDS. I however would not take any more and would try like im doing to take less. I know its hard my pack is on fire.

I just started taking lortab with my adderall today. I asked the pharmacist about interactions. He told me the lortab might decrease the effectiveness of the adderall but there should not be any effects to the pain killer.

It does seem as though the adderall isn't as effective- but I am trying to decide now if that is in my head since that is the information I have already processed. I can't be sure.

Take it.....but if you are just laying around, because of injury...then why not just cx the adderall, and let the vicodin...nix the pain.

The vicodin, will likely keep you awake, if you take together, but if you wait until evening, it should help you sleep and get relief.

I have gallstones for which my internist gave me Percocet to keep on hand in case I should experience one of my periodic gallbladder "attacks." When I started taking ADD meds (first Ritalin, now Adderall), I asked my prescribing psychiatrist what I should do if I got a bout of gallbladder pain. His response was that I should go ahead and take the Percoset if I needed it; that it wouldn't cause a bad reaction. But he also recommended I not take any further ADD meds for as long as I needed to use the Percoset.

Still, the suggestions that you speak to either your doctor or pharmacist about it is advice well worth following. Your health is something you don't want to take chances with.

The side-effects of stopping amphetamines cold turkey and taking opiates could through your body and emotions for a loop. I am not a medical professional so I can not say anything with authority. I have done this before and experienced no bad side effects, that would not normally be associated with opiates and amphetamines.

I am a professional and you are correct.
The pain meds will not interfere with the Adderall.....
Just don't take them together....
