I justed wanted to share my little experience. Today I tried calling all the pharmacies in my area to get an idea of what they carry in terms of generic Adderall, and if they can order other brands. What I encountered was that most pharmacies carry Barr, while one carried Ranbaxy. Others were able to order either Mallinckrodt or Eon, but I could not find anyone that would order Abrika. Just as well, my personal beef is with Barr labs, and it really doesn't matter what other brands I may be able to get.

CVS was able to order Mallinckrodt and Lacey's was able to order Eon. Another pharmacy around here called Poole's ordinarily carries Ranbaxy.

I want to clarify something before I go ahead and submit this. I would not classically give a crap about brand versus generic, or have a preference with a certain generic manufacturer. Before I had my nightmare with Barr, I didn't even think about it. I just knew I was saving money. I don't know the figures but if I had to guess, I'd say 80-90% of people do alright on Barr. Some people may do better. But for those of us who have had problems keep in mind you can expand your options if you take a little time.

Call up as many pharmacies as you can and bug them about ordering different brands. Remember certain generic manufacturers carry certain dosages, so you if you take 15mg for example, you might want to look into Ranbaxy or Mallinckrodt. Otherwise you'll have to take 1.5 10mgs, which will cost more.

I probably go with the Mallinckrodt from CVS, because they manufacture 15mg tabs. It was $88.99 for 60, and it takes about 5 days to come in, so call in advance! Eon was $137.16 for 100, which is a similar price, but they only make 5, 10, 20, and 30. You could also get 30's and buy a pill cutter, which will really help costs. My dosing schedule is 15, 7.5, 7.5, so I'm not sure how comfortable I feel with quartering my pills. We'll see.

For this month I just sucked it up and went with 20mg XR ;)

I wish you all the best of luck,
-Brian

I just started back up on Adderall for my ADD after a break of about 9 months. The last time around I ended up on brand after having problems with the generics, including Barr. You all the know the drill you have heard here- my side effects were horrible with the generics, with headaches, insomnia, and worst of all uneven blood levels- the generics just did not have a classical blood concentration curve in my body.

In case any one has not yet written about this, the Ranbaxy is no better. I have had headaches, terrible headaches, at the end of the first three days. The 20 mg pills just feel dirty dirty dirty- and there really is not much focus- but for a few 20 minute spurts here and there.

Thankfully I have a Pharamacist who is going to switch out the generics he dispensed and replace them with the brand.

If you have had problems with other generics, avoid Ranbaxy

I just got my prescription the other day and I tried to get brand name adderall to see if I could tell a difference but Walmart didn't have it.
I've been taking Barr for over the past 3 years and it seems alright...

I've never had a problem with the generic. I believe I had Mallinckrodt.

I find it very interesting how some of us on Adderall can take ANY generic w/o problems (I'm one of them) and why others have bad reactions.

I've taken Barr, Eon, and I think Mallinckrodt and have never had a problem (in the 6 years I've been on Adderall) with any of them.

I've also bought brand name Adderall after having previously taken generic to see if there was a difference. There was a difference alright... about $60.

Thats so weird,I dont understand it.I guess I dont have too.Everyones body is diffrent.I wonder what simular link is between the people who have bad reactions to generic or IR?

I wish for my pockets sake the IR generic would have worked,it was much cheaper but it almost killed me!!!

Fillers in generics are different among generics and name brands. FDA says that generics have the same rate of absorbtion and efficacy of name brands. I don't take any stimulants but my experiences with various benzodiazapines tells me there is a big difference. In my body anyway. Name brand klonopin is even a harder pill than the generic. The generic i was taking previously would disolve partly in my mouth if i didnt swallow quick enough. The generic hit me more quickly for a shorter amount of time while the name brand was more of a steady rise and fall. I just thought it was a deal with klonopin but maybe all meds are that way. What about antibiotics? just thoughts.

I too have had generic Klonopin and it dissolved in my mouth as well. Never tried name Brand Klonopin. How strange!

BTW: I checked my generic bottles and the generic Adderall IR I was taking was Ranbaxy (not Mallinckrodt). It worked fine for me even compared to the brand name Adderall. :)
