I was put on Adderall XR 20 mg today and i was curious of anyones experiences with this med.I know it works differentyl on everyone but i was wondering.I have tried ritalin and ritalin la,strattera amd concerta and no such luck so my pshy gave me a script to start adderall xr tomm and i was curious.I really hope this one helps me!!!1:faint:
adhdxyz 08-04-05, 08:35 PM I am 43 and finally got "officially" diagnosed with adhd in March 2005. I take 20 mg Adderall XR at 630am. I then take a 10 mg Adderall IR at 3pm. The Adderall XR worked but in late afternoon I came crashing down. I needed something to get me through work and also through dinner/family time up until I finish laundry etc. So atleast through 10pm. For years I took vivarin cafeine pills and now I do not have to. The Adderall XR and the Adderall IR get me through from morning til night.
The only side effects I have is dry mouth and lack of appetite, which I am thrilled about. I have been on Atkins for a year or so and was on a plateau for several months. When I started Adderall, my metabolism kick started again. I have dropped from a size 16 jean to a 14. (If I suck it in, I can fit into a 12 but I wouldn't go out in public yet.)
My moods are much more even and I don't get nearly as stressed out. During my pms week, I used to take clorazeptate (tranzene) aka "horse tranquilizer" as my new doctor calls it during my pms time. Instead she just gave me a prescription for generic prozac. I only had to take it like 2 times since I got the script.
My husband is 45 and add. He has self medicated with pot and alcohol for years and years. He started Adderall XR in June. He takes 20 mg in the morning and doesn't need an afternoon dose. It has been heaven around here. He gets projects done. He doesn't look for someone to argue with. He is pleasant to be around. He doesn't feel the need to smoke pot any more. He didn't drink alot before but he drinks even less now. He sees a big difference too.
So far my husband and I have had great results with Adderall.
Good luck.
Welcome. I started Adderall IR one week ago. This is the first ADD med I've taken. Lets just say it's a love/hate relationship. I take 15mg in the morning and 15 mg late afternoon. I can definitely focus while taking it. I'm getting more work, cleaning, and organizing done than ever. Which is great.
The negative side is that when it starts to wear off I begin to feel some anxiety and overall depression and sometimes mild panic. Which is not like me at all! I've gone through the days of anxiety/depression and I thought that I had completely gotten through it and then Adderall brings it right back out.
I know I've only taken it a week and I'm going to give it a month to see how I adjust. As of now, I think I may take being disorganized and seen as a slacker vs having feelings of anxiety and depression again.
So basically, the first few hours are great on Adderall. It's the come down that is a b*&ch  I think a lot of people have this effect with both the XR and IR.
Hope this helps. Good luck :)

If you stick it out, the "crash and burn" effect may go away. I experienced that my first two weeks on Adderall (IR) and stopped taking the drug because of that and because of a bad dizziness episode. But then after a hiatus of a couple of weeks, I started Adderall IR again and the "crash and burn" effect didn't reoccur.
I am now on Adderall XR which I like even better then the IR, because it seems a bit smoother and I don't have to worry about things like being stuck in a meeting and, therefore, not being able to take my second dose of IR at the optimal time.
I will begin taking it in the morning as my pharmacy had to order the med yesterday and i just now got it but the weight lose thing i can handle for sure ;) .
I will be VERY happy if it helps me get a little more energy and feel a little more focused as i am not at all right now,i try to be but what a joke.
I will update you all on how im feeling after i begin it tomm morning.
LittleD1981 08-09-05, 05:19 PM How is it going for you Lipz?
I'm on Adderall XR 20mg as well. I took it for a month and felt it wasn't working all that well, and then switched to Focalin XR 10mg, but that didn't work, so I'm back on Adderall. I'm giving it another try because I think I was just comparing it too much to Ritalin, which has a peak effect, and a definite start and stop time, where as Adderall is much more gradual. I haven't really had that many opportunities where I could really put it to the test, though, but tomorrow I will because I'm in a program for 6 hours, so we'll see how that goes.
Im doing ok I guess. It is hard to explain, all day long I feel good, very productive in the house cleaning and suxh but come 6-7 at night I feel VERY overwelmed like i get upset very easily for a short time.Has anyone else experienced this?
purerealm 08-10-05, 10:37 PM seems like that's about the time when the XR's effects have diminished. try taking a little bit of caffeine around that time , it will help smooth out the comedown
I will try that because I really like the effect during the day but the coming down is not so good.
somegirlinhere 08-12-05, 12:23 PM Stick with it for a few months before forming an opinion.
I was on adderall xr 20mg for a full month before I started experiencing the "good" effects of what it was susposed to do. In the beginning I was only experiencing the "bad" effects. The bad stuff has passed and I really do see how wonderful this medicine is in helping those with ADD.
I take mine in the morning anytime before 9:30 am.. Then it lasts all day. I sleep fine now as it has worn off by the time I go to bed (around 11pm)
Moods are even now, focus is better, just took a while to kick in.

I don't experience a coming down feeling...
Is that only with the regular adderall vs. the XR kind?
Not sure.
I have heard that if you drink a caffinated soda later in the day when the medicine is wearing off the crash won't be as bad for you.
Personally I've not had to do that so I can't personally say it works.
brandilyn 08-12-05, 02:01 PM i take adderall xr 20ml. two times a day.once in the morning and then at 2p.m. or so.its a lifesaver!!but i did experience the crash effect when i first started only taking one in the morning.ive been on the two for about a week now and i cant complain, although i am starting to feel a little edgy at evening time.my doc said that we will just keep adjusting until we get the right dosage.i have it real bad though,so i know that it sounds like a high dosage but it is the only medication that really worked.immediately.its a lifesaver!i went to psycologist and psychiatrist for years before i got the proper meds, they made me feel like a druggie looking for drugs.i finally got help going to a M.D. best decision i ever made.good luck!!
srhtinker 08-12-05, 10:03 PM I've been on Adderall XR for eight months now. I remember my first three days on it.I felt so good everything was clear like neon lights. I did'nt really crash,it was mellow. I tell you what, I was so energized that I wanted to write a book on the drug and how it was going to change my life. Now I feel balanced like I'm supposed too, but a pill can't fix it all, so I have some issues. Like some of you, I was untreated so it's picking up pieces that's hard.I've gained depression and anxiety from the effect of not been treated.
brandilyn 08-17-05, 01:25 AM I think thats happened to alot of us.Deep inside you really miss those first three days.LOL!!
