View Full Version : School coming soon!
livinginchaos 08-07-05, 09:56 PM Do you know what classes you're taking?
Which ones are you looking forward to?
I'm back in college, working towards my masters. I'm taking Basics of Applied Behavior Analysis.
vegansoprano 08-08-05, 02:17 AM I am NOT looking forward to school. Last semester was my first since diagnosis and between being depressed over the diagnosis, adjusting to meds, and just pushing myself harder than was actually possible, it was a ******* disaster.
I want to not hate school, but I'm not hopeful at this point.
Nucking_Futs 08-08-05, 08:33 AM Right now I am taking Anatomy and Physiciology I, Psych I and will be taking my compass test in a few hours (I'm very nervous) to see what math and English courses I need to add.
Then I can add a few classes for full time status.
I'm going to nursing school with a focus on Psychiatric care in children. My childrens talk therapist is an RN with a special degree in child Psych developement that is my goal as of now there are only 2 ADD child specialist practicing in Nebraska.
justcharlie 08-08-05, 09:16 AM Oh yeah I'm looking forward to this semester.Because once again I have to take algebra #4? attempt.Fortunately I have been studying on my own since march. If I don't pass it this time I'm quitting because there are no majors I can get, except for maybe art and tthat will not improve my work situation much.
livinginchaos 08-08-05, 09:15 PM What are some favorite school supplies???
I love gel pens! Also, 3 inch "D" 3 ring binders are essential to my classes, since we get so much information we have to print out.
White out is a great product. My 2nd favorite: extra sticky post it notes!
I heard there's a new policy at my school that if you're late for school you can't play on the sports teams. Sports are easily the best part of school but I'm usually late like twice a week...so I'm not looking forward to this year at all.

call your school to find out! Do you have an IEP or accomodations? Arriving on time can be something for you to work on.
so_impatient 08-13-05, 11:24 PM YAY FINALLY
freedom!

Its hard for Dakota to get up and get motivated for school as well, then add on the 20 minute bus ride to his school. What we do is get him up about 2 hours before he has to go to school. He rushes thru his shower, dressing, eating so that he can lay back down in the recliner until it is time to go.
If I get him up a half hour to an hour before school starts he dinks around because he knows when he is done he has to leave for school.
At a local middle school:
Too many lates = can't attend the next school dance and / or in-school suspension
Parents support this because it discourages kids from hanging around the corner store or the skateboard park or . . . instead of getting to classes on time.
Futs, I have to get up two hours before I walk to work. People don't understand that I just need that much time to wake up and get ready for the day.
fasttalkingmom 08-14-05, 08:45 PM Yahoooooooo :D
OOps sorry I guess this post isn't for Mom's.....hehe
I'm really excited for school to start; my first year of high school! At my school, every grade has a name (like sophmore, junior, etc.) and last year eighth graders were called stupid-little-junior-high-kids. And now I have a more respectable name; freshman.
Plus I have a 504 plan to ease things up a bit. My favorite class has to be gym, which I can't wait for. I also like english, because I like to read and write. One of the classes I really dread is math since I don't get it.
I'm looking forward to the kids starting school because it gives me some externally-imposed times to hang my housework routines on. Right now, anything can be done at any time, so of course nothing gets done.
As for me, my course is independent-study, and so starts whenever my books arrive. I'm not exactly looking forward to it, but since I really need to be finished by a certain time, I'm itching to get started.
livinginchaos 08-16-05, 07:19 PM Hey Paws!
I looked forward to gym and English too!
Bedders 08-18-05, 07:00 PM SKOOL AHHHHHHHHHHHHH I REALLY DONT WANNA GO BACK TO SKOOOL !!!
b-baller#15 08-18-05, 10:21 PM School starts for me on the 24th im not looking forward to it at all. One of the biggest reasons is because our high school has something called block scheduling. It is where we only have 4 classes a day and they are each 90 minutes long. It sucks!!! We take 4 classes half of the year and the other 4 the other half of the year.
If you dont get along with the teacher or you dont like the class you can have some big problems. Is anyone else on block scheduling at their school?

There aren't any IEP or accomdations that I know of, and I probably wouldn't get them even if there were.
What makes the problem really hard is I ride my bike to school, and the distance should take about 20 minutes. BUT there are some really nasty traffic lights, and they can change the time by about 10 minutes, because some of them are like a 5 minute wait. So I should be able to leave at 8:20 and get to school on time easily, but really I can leave at 8:10 and still be late. But every morning I tell myself "it only takes 20 minutes" and then...
Nucking_Futs 08-19-05, 11:00 AM Stella my Annatomy and Physiology course is 3 hours long two days a week and on Mondays I have a 2 hour lab. Something tells me that even with meds I'm going to find this course trying my patience. lol

My school is kinda the same, we have 4 classes that are 80 minutes long every day. But we have a total of 8 classes that we do for the whole year, so we never have the same class two days in a row. So it's a little different I guess.
livinginchaos 08-19-05, 11:00 PM When I was in high school we had block classes, stellato. They were difficult, but at the same time, prepared me for college classes.
Binro - I used to be just like that and sometimes still slip back into it! It takes me about 30 minutes to get to work in the morning. I usually leave between 715-720am, sometimes I say to myself, "well, it takes 1/2 hour I can leave at 730a."
Doesn't work well at all for me!! Traffic gets so bad within that 10-15 minutes that I'm late the majority of the time when I leave late.
