I've been taking Dexedrine for the last 5 years and often have trouble jogging when I'm on the medication. I get tired very easily and my muscles become sore and stiff. Although I've never smoked, the feeling I have is similar to what a heavy smoker describes when trying to exercise. Does anyone know about stimulants' long term effect on the cardio system?

I can't say I've had the same experience, I find that taking Dexedrine makes it a bit easier for me to exercise, but then I used to get bored easily by exercise.
5 years is enough time that you may just have inhaled enough ciggerette smoke around you and other toxins that it had a bit of an effect on you. Maybe you are taking things too hard. I'm not a physical therapist in any way, so I can't say for sure or anything. Last year I wasn't a regular smoker, but all my friends were and people were allowed to smoke indoors in that city, and I noticed an improvement in my cardio performance a few months after I moved away and rarely had any exposure to cigerette smoke

dex can cause an increase in BP and pulse, so i would guess its possable that it could cause a problem during exercise. Just a guess though.

How long are your runs in time and distance?
How often do you run?
What is your age and gender?
What is your resting heart rate and what is the heart rate that you maintain when you run, off and on meds?
I take dextroamphetamine and run about 20+ miles a week. I don't have a big problem other than I sometimes find my heart rate is a few beats higher with dex in my system than not.
I'm really interested in what you have to say about your experiences. I hope you can share some more information.
Cheers! Ian.

Leroy: what city do you live in? I found that when I went to Chicago I could NOT breath, but only when my dex was technically kicked in. I couldn't even go for a walk. I'm fine in New York, but not Chicago, figure that one out. I speculate that this city's specific toxins, plus my system and dexies maybe caused a minor toxic overload in my system, as decrease lung power is a symptom of that.
Also- about the tired muscles- that totally happens to me as well sometimes, but as I've noticed, only on days after I've eaten a bunch of sugar. Let's say I eat a bunch of cookies and have hot chocolate, the next morning my muscles are TOTALLy too tired to do anything the next day. I would definetly try not eating sugar for a day, because that makes a HUGE difference with me.

It's been my experience that when I take a stimulant, my heart rate and breathing remain normal, until I increase them, at which point they do not drop again easily. Whereas normally I wouldn't lose my breath because I can control it and drop it again when it changes, I can't stop breathing hard, nor can I lower my heart rate (something I can do more or less at will, thanks martial arts!).

Yup. Muscle pain is common on Dex. I have old injuries and it makes the pain much worse!@
