View Full Version : new year, clean slate
Mystic_Oracle 08-08-05, 11:17 PM Okay, I know I haven't been on in awhile. I've been busy. Anyway I was at CVS/Pharmacy tonight and I bought a bunch of notebooks since I figured I'd better stock up on the school supplies I need (I already have plenty of highlighters, pencils, pens, etc.). I remembered this idea someone gave me in here, although I can't remember exactly who the person was...an idea about notebooks, where you have 1 notebook for each course and then a big notebook to recopy the notes into, which you use to study for tests. I bought 4 1-subject notebooks, as well as 2 5-subject notebooks since they didn't have a 4-subject notebook. One of the 5-subject notebooks I'll use to recopy my notes into; the other one I'm sure I'll find some use for (I'm a nerd and love to 'learn independently'). In the notebook I use to study for tests, I'll use the first 4 sections for each subject and the remainding one for whatever...I haven't decided yet. Anyway, the 4 1-subject notebooks are called Zwipes, they're made by Mead, and they have a dry-erase board thing for the covers. Each cover is an actual dry-erase board, which I thought was kinda cool...now I SAY this, but who knows how this will work out...the notebook covers may get torn off, or I may use the wrong kind of marker on them and not be able to REMOVE the ink from it...but hopefully, things will be fine. Oh and another thing, you have to use special markers for them...each notebook comes with a marker, and you can buy separate packs of markers too. Well, I just felt like sharing my academic endeavors...ta ta!
bcaddkid 08-08-05, 11:31 PM Nice..I'll be looking for those notebooks, I love doodling in lecture...maybe the meds will help with that, as well as awareness that I have a problem. It's my first semester KNOWING that I've got this ADD issue, so knowing should help.
Little tip with the white boards: If you use a marker other than the dry erase ones, and it won't come off, just cover the stain with some dry erase marker and then wipe clean. EVERYTHING will come, including the stain underneath.
This trick also works if you pass out drunk and your friends draw on you with permanent markers. What, does this only happen to me?
Mystic_Oracle 08-09-05, 12:08 AM Hahaha, I plan to use the dry erase boards to write reminders of stuff down, like if the teacher mentions anything during class, I can just write it on the boards and then transfer it to my planner later on.
Good tip for the whipe off boards...also, and I just remembered this, fingernail polish remover will remove ANYTHING. Anything at all...I have yet to try fingernail polish remover on a stain that stays put...lol. I know this because I was babysitting my cousin one time, and he drew on the walls with markers, my aunt said oh just use fingernail polish remover...and the rest is history.

I feel you on the knowing about the ADD part. I started seeing a counselor about it, well really just about my life in general...because at one time I felt so lost...LOL. Anyway, she's helped me a lot. She taught me to see things not so much in terms of the ADD, but individual things which were interfering with my life. I have a time management issue which I'm in the process of correcting...but it's like now, instead of thinking, 'I can't do this task because I have ADD,' I know how to pinpoint WHAT exactly is causing the problem, and so I work from there. For example, I tend to have a problem with anticipating how long it will take me to do something, so I use a lot of eggtimers...and they actually work LOL. I don't know what medication you're on (I'm on Adderall myself), but whatever it is, good luck with it.
bcaddkid 08-10-05, 01:53 PM I'm so stoked to know why I had so much trouble getting organized and focusing, and I find that just knowing that helps me get better at things. The medication helps (strattera), but medication only gives you the ability/chance to do better. It's up to me to make the effort to use my planner, take notes, organize myself, etc. I'm 22 years behind other people in those areas, and so I'm playing catch up, but it's working, and I'm glad.
Question: Do you use a computer at all? Do you think that a laptop would be handy at school? I'm considering making the switch, and I'm a little addicted to toys of all kinds :), and I find that I'm more productive at work with my laptop, seeing as how it goes where I go, and I can use it as a planner as well.

Eh...it depends on what you're using the computer for. I'll take my laptop to school with me, but it'll stay in my apartment and I won't be using it very often, with the exception of typing papers. I get too addicted to looking at random sites on the internet, so when school is going on, I just leave the computer alone for the most part. But like I said, it depends on what you're using the computer for, and I don't use my computer that often during school, but that's just my personal choice.
