OSAP - Ontario Student Assistance Plan - bursary for ADHD students.
After deciding to go back to school this year - doing a B.Ed. and planning to teach High School physics and math - I applied for a provincial government student loan and was pleased to find out that there is a bursary (a grant that you don't have to pay back) for people with permanent disabilities - and ADHD is considered a permanent disability for the purposes of this grant. Now I don't consider ADHD as a "disability" per se - perhaps a limiting factor - but for $2k in free money, the OSAP people can label me as much as they want! I don't know if other provincial governments do the same thing, but all Canadian students with ADHD that qualify for government student loans should ask about it! I mean how often do you get money from the Government that you weren't expecting and that you didn't already pay out (like a tax refund).

In the US? No they only offer you money if you are part of a pet project that your local senator can claim credit for. LMAO. Not sure how the system works there.

Greg...you know what this means. You could be a rookie teacher in my school!!! I live in the Southwestern part of the provience. Are we close?

I hope I can bring this to the attention of the Manitoba Government student services. Thanks for the nod Gregster.

Scuro,
I'll be practice teaching in the Trillium-Lakeland District school board - not sure which school since I applied late - OK, at the very last minute ;-)
I've requested Huntsville High, since I live in Huntsville, and based on the shortage of science teachers I would be surprised if they didn't make room for me.
Where and what do you teach?

To anyone out there applying for school - it's worth a look to see if you qualify for disability benefits of some kind for your ADHD. The Gov of Canada sees it as a permantent disability for the purposes of funding education, so other governments - state, federal, etc. may also treat it as such - it never hurts to ask! It turns out that I qualify for around $5000 in bursaries for various reasons, and I haven't even started to apply for ones that are specific to my school and program - so I could do even better than 5k! That's Canadian $'s, of course. There are times when you really love having a socialist government in power - and for me this is one of those times!
Cheers,
Greg

I'm so gonna look into funding. If the Canadian government wants to give me money, I'll take it!
