Come on..admit it. Some of you are action sports fanatics. You can't help it, you need the stimulation that team sports could never provide you with.
Skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, BMX, mountainbiking, longboarding, surfing, whitewater kayaking, et al, I know some of you dabble in some of these sports...
Come out of the "action sports closet", it's safe now. Mountain Dew and Nike are done co-opting your favourite sports...
Seriously, anyone else addicted to any of these sports and the resulting lifestyles?
I've become seriously addicted to running, but that's hardly an action sport! heheh I'm going to have my road bike rebuilt as soon as I have some extra coin, but that's just more endurance stuff so that's not "action" oriented either. So... no not this cowpoke.
The intensity of sport is attractive now that I'm on dextroamphetamine though. I'm far more likely to be social. A local guy has signed me up for a big football game in October. I've never played organised ball before but actually aside from some tentitive feelings about injury, I'm excited to be included. I hope I don't break!
Cheers! Ian.

I find I get a comparable rush out of running, but for different reasons. It's more knowing that I've run a new PB or finally made a 10 k, or been able to have a better hill workout than before. Running brings a longer lasting, satisfying feeling.
Action sports bring about a slightly different but comparable, shorter term, almost "euphoric" feeling in me...kinda like an orgasm maybe? There's nothing like stopping after you've finished a line, looking back, and realizing that A-yes, you did huck yourself off that cliff, and that B-you've been so over-stimulated that you're shaking. It's really so great.
Different, but both awesome. I couldn't ski/bike/skate if I didn't run, but why run if I can't ski/bike/skate? I use them to build on each other.

Hmmmm, I go snowboarding in the winter, and used to wakeboard in the summer, but I never got addicted; too bad, since I do nothing now!!
Damn, I missed the addiction bus! Maybe there's another one coming? (g)

I used to surf.
I started back into judo this week, after a hiatus of 1.5 years. Right now my entire body hurts, and I'm missing the skin off a bunch of my knuckles; my body has a hard time keeping up with the workout; my timing is off and form has sufferred.
But it's still there -- that judo zone that I missed so much. It feels so good to get it back.
And yes, addictive is probably the best way to describe the feeling. Back in the day, if I didn't get in my judo "fix" I'd be grumpy until my next practice, kind of like a jonesing addict. :)
