I started taking Adderall XR 20mg in June. Everything was going great and I was feeling good. My insurance at work changed and it was going to cost $55 a month to keep taking the XR.
I started taking Adderall 20mg three times a daily in July and am now up to 30mg three times a day. I feel good, I can sit and do things for a long period of time, and I am getting more done, my husband says my temper is much better BUT...I feel like I am a space cadet in conversations. I will get talking and forget what I am talking about, or someone will tell me something and refer back to it an hour later and I can't remember. It seems like this has gotten worse with Adderall but everthing else has gotten so much better.
Has this happened to anyone or does anyone have any advice about this. I now question taking my meds because at my job conversation is a big thing.
Any advice would be great!!

Couple quick questions...

I realized that you are having problems remembering things in your conversations, but is this the only time you are having problems with memory?

Also you said that you started off with 20mg XR but was that all you were taking per day in the beginning? I ask this because you are now on a dose of 90mg/ day which is a pretty big jump in two months (especially if everything was going well that first month). I am guessing that you were taking the 20 XR mutliple times during the day.

I would say about 75% of the time my memory problems are with conversations the other 25% are day to day things.....like what did I come into the kitchen for? Or where did I put my book.
Yes, I was only taking 20MG XR once daily. It was going ok, though when I started taking just the regular 20MG three times a day I noticed a difference and it wasn't until I started taking 60MG a day that my husband could notice a difference. But now with the 90MG I notice a big difference all good except my memory part.

What symptoms are you treating - primarily? What changes is your husband seeing? Is your focus OK? I wonder if you might be taking a bit too much Adderall. 90mg is a fair bit. Too much can be as bad as too little. Now everyone is different and some need more than others, so there is no "correct" amount that can be prescribed based on weight, etc. so you may well be a the correct dosage for you, but "tuning out" in conversations and poor memory could be a sign you've gone over the "optimal" dosage. The way it was explained to me, the first symptoms you see improvement in, as you start taking stimulants, is increased focus, consentration, etc. Then at higher doses you start to see improvements in self control, impulse control, and then at higher doses still, you see a difference in hyperactivity. But you also loose much of the gain you had in focus when you take that much, so it's best not to treat "hyperactivity" with medication. See what happens if you back off on the medication a bit - the hardest part is figuring out the right amount to take, it's not easy and takes months to figure out sometimes.
Cheers,
Greg

My husband and I both agree that my self control is so much better. Also, my focus and consentration has gotten better.
My main symptoms were not focused, trying to do a lot of stuff at one time, and the anxiety that came along with not being able to focus and lack of self control....the littlest things could and would set me off.
It's just weird because all these things have gotten so much better but suddenly I can't remember things while I talk or why I went into a room for something
