Rather amusing read on The smoking gun about Scientology's messiah, L Ron Hubbard.

.
The reason Scientologists are rabid in their hatred of psychiatry is due to L. Ron Hubbards own personal experiences.

He himself had severe psychiatric problems. After his discharge from the Navy he wrote the Veterans Administration a beseeching letter asking for psychiatric help. He was refused the aid he sought.

After starting Scientology he was labeled a psychotic by the established psychiatric community.

L. Ron Hubbard was also involved in black magic with Aleister Crowley. When he wrote dianetics he was wired on as he put it "pinks and grays" (speed) as well as copius amounts of rum.

Scientologists believe that the source of all our problems are "body thetans".
They are the souls of space aliens that were brought to earth 75 million years ago by an evil intergalactic ruler called Xenu.

The aliens were placed in volcanoes in Hawaii and in the Canary Islands. They were then blown up with Hydrogen bombs.
The souls were collected and placed in a cinema where they where forced to watch movies for 3 days.
This had the effect of implanting them with false memories. The souls where then released.

They now supposedly cling to all of us. The only way to get rid of them is through expensive Scientology courses.

At the highest level of Scientology they are supposed to be able to "exteriorize" leave their bodies and float around.

If you need a good laugh go to www.xenu.net (http://www.xenu.net/) it shows the lunacy of Scientology.

Whew, quite the trip for morning reading. Think passing on some of the info will give others something to either chuckle and/or think about. I had no idea there was such a tremendous backlash against Scientology. Years ago after actually enjoying some of the SciFi series I started the Scientology book but stopped when it got too strange for my tastes  . I never even knew my mind had been invaded by aliens, just thought I had AD/HD! Thanks for the info.

I moved this this thread to spirituality because I felt it would be in good company here. There is an ongoing thread concerning The Church.

A complete aside: When a friend was hitting bottom in his crack addiction, he would call me concerning his paranoia and his spiritual insights. These seem to blend suspiciously.

He ranted about Bob Dobbs and The Church of the SubGenii. About how Bob--transported by space aliens in the 1950s and granted higher consciousness-- recommended that every Sub Genius "pick up the pipe."

You can imagine what pipe my friend believed Bob referred to (not your grandmother's pipe).

My friend would also claim he had worked out all his endless engrams and how he attained higher levels of clarity in Scientology just like Ron L had.

He was rereading Dianetics, over and over (his mind exploding like the volcano on the cover), while the cops and the brutal psychiatric nurses just on the other side of his locked bedroom door threatened to drag him away -- these voices turned out to be his apartment mate and a couple of friends having a pot party and later his mate requesting the rent.

Don't get me wrong, The Church had nothing to do with this. They were not getting a penny from this guy. We all know where all his money was going.

But, his paranoia, his interpretations of a fictional religious text (Church of the SubGenious) and his growing confidence in the power of Dianetics merged seemlessly together.

Since then, many religious assertions sound to me like lines pilferred from Bob Dobbs or Ron L. mixed with a little crack.
