i have neck pain that just won't go away...i feel like i can't relax myself even if i wanna...i have bad sitting and sleeping posture. i can't fall asleep unless i sleep on my stomach, which is not the ideal sleeping posture. I switched to the contour memory foam pillow, a bit better but i still have neck pain.

the neck pain is like the muscles r really tense on the base of my neck with my shoulder...could this be a sign of depression? i have ADHD and it's quite possible that i have depression along with ADHD

does anyone have the same neck problem and got treated? should i talk to my psychiatist first or should i see general medicine to figure why i have neck pain?

thx:)

I would go see a doctor. Also do you bend over when you walk a bit like a hunge back? That could also cause alot of pain. You havn't had a car acciendent of something that cause wip-lash?

My question is: on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the worst) how much pain is your neck giving you?

I have muscle pain from tension in my neck nearly all of the time. For me, part of it is from working too much on the computer and part of it is from carrying my oversized head around. I have one of those skull sizes that usually won't fit into any regular hat size.

I've found using heat packs and alternating with a refreezable ice pack help quite a bit.

The bad posture you mention is probably a main factor in it.

agree with poor posture, esp when working on pc or wherever you do substantial amounts of work/time.

sometimes it could be a little arthritis or disc compression.

I have neck pain along with several friends, I think the key is posture, sleep, muscle relaxation and strenghthening the other muscles, but that comes last.

good luck on that!

As mentioned by others poor posture can denifinatly result in neck pain. I agree with the replys that state working on a computer where you are forced by the postition of the monitor to tilt head down to view screen will cause this type of tension.

Should this be the case two things you can do to help.

#1 Using a large book, or another solid surface to elevate the computer screen to eye level with neck straight and eyesslightly downward. Neck pain can be cuased by a computer screen being positioned to low cause you to actually move your head forward to see screen.

#2 Frequent breaks while doing computer. If you can not get up and actually walk around then the next best thing is ... change the position of your head by gently rotating it at least every 20-30 minutes (oh yea rotate head while rest of back is straight) . While relaxing you neck and head (apx 1-2 minutes at least) you should be giving your eyes a break from the computer screen as well. Eye strain AND neck tension combined can cause a nasty head ache. The head ache in return causes more neck tension which in turn cause........ this is vicious cycle

the neck pain is like the muscles r really tense on the base of my neck with my shoulder

Wouldn't be the left shoulder????? Tension can do that...you know nervious tension will keep your neck and shoulder muscles tense without you even relaizing it until AGGGG pian strikes!!!!

Right handed people usually experience this in the left shoulder and left handed people in the right shoulder. It has to do with hand dominance. The dominate hand flexes and relaxes more because it is used more in fine motor activities.

does anyone have the same neck problem and got treated?

YES........years ago my neck and shoulder muscles would get so tense and painful I would wiggle my fingers on my left hand to make sure they weren't paralized!!!!

Treatment should begin with MEDICAL check up to rule out any conditions or injueies that are causing this pain. After I was assured my neck pain was tension generated I :

*Learned an practiced good body mechanics and stretching exercises.

Example I use a nail gun all day long. Some times if I am not careful my right hand and wrist become sore from the repeative motion and impact. My hand stays gripped around the handle of the gun. Every 20-30 minutes I take a short 1-2 minute break and gently stretch my right hand, fingers and wrist in the opposite direction flexing my fingers backwards until I feel SLIGHT pull or resisitence of wrist, hand and finger muscles. As I stretch my hand backwards I concentrate on relaxing my hand and wrist muscle. Never bend or flex to the point of pain!!!!!

For neck pain sitting up straight slowlt and gentle rotate head. I say slowly becuase as you rotate your head around you will feel the muscles on your neck "pull" concentrate on relaxing the muscles of your neck you feel pulling from. NEVER force your self to the point of unpleasent pain I can not stress this enough!!!!! Pulling should be described as "hurts so good" or "feeling of muscles stretching".

Yoga would be ideal for this.
I learned accupressure
the power of a nice relaxing shower or bubble bath!!!!!
meditation or other form of relaxation "exercise"
Massages

I have consultated a ciropractor to assist me when my neck is out of alignment

Also be sure you are getting the proper amount of exercise, adequatly toned muscles are less likely to become tense muscles. I don't know how this works it just does.

Hope this helps!!!!!
