View Full Version : This was so true I had to share it

I read this at a forum that had nothing to do with ADD but it had mentioned CSR (can't remember S***) I thought it was great and had to share because it is soooooo like an ADDer

This is how it goes: I decide to wash the car; I start toward the garage and notice the mail on the table.

Ok, I'm going to wash the car. But first I'm going to go through the mail. I lay the car keys down on the desk, discard the junk mail and I notice the trashcan is full.

Ok, I'll just put the bills on my desk and take the trashcan out, but since I'm going to be near the mailbox anyway, I'll pay these few bills first.

Now, where is my checkbook? Oops, there's only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk.

Oh, there's the coke I was drinking. I'm going to look for those checks. But first I need to put my coke further away from the computer; oh maybe I'll pop it into the fridge to keep it cold for a while.

I head towards the kitchen and my flowers catch my eye, they need some water.

I set the coke on the counter and uh oh! There are my glasses. I was looking for them all morning! I'd better put them away first.

I fill a container with water and head for the flower pots - - Aaaaaagh!

Someone left the TV remote in the kitchen. We'll never think to look in the kitchen tonight when we want to watch television so I'd better put it back in the family room where it belongs.

I splash some water into the pots and onto the floor, I throw the remote onto a soft cushion on the sofa and I head back down the hall trying to figure out what it was I was going to do?

End of Day: The car isn't washed, the bills are unpaid, the coke is sitting on the kitchen counter, the flowers are half watered, the checkbook still only has one check in it and I can't seem to find my car keys!

When I try to figure out how come nothing got done today, I'm baffled because I KNOW I WAS BUSY ALL DAY LONG!!!

I realize this is a serious condition and I'll get help, BUT FIRST I think I'll check my e-mail...

Yep, sure sounds familiar -- pretty hard to convince your partner though that you've been busy all day, when nothing looks different!

Actually, this is quite brilliant!! I'm glad you posted this...

As a nonADD person, I had a good gist of how things go, but sometimes it's hard to visualize the reality, but this concrete example really brings it home to me.

And it just makes so much sense too, I mean of COURSE it can happen just this way.

thanks I'm going to save this, for those times when I forget how it is that busy doesn't always result in DONE.

:) :) :)

That took a whole day?
Heck that's just a snippet of the first hour of my day.

But it was funny as heck to have someone else map out how we get lost in the sea of todo's on a daily basis!!!!

Definitely worth reading!

Draven, The way I look at it is:

1) You found your glasses, which saved you both time and money from having to make time to go to the eyeglass store, wait for an appt, pay for new glasses, etc... Now you don't have to do that.

Plus....

2) You found the tv remote which not only saved a few dollars from buying a new one but it also saved the family from the arguing and frustration when they went to watch tv that night and couldn't find the remote. They would then start accusing everyone else of loosing it. Now you don't have to deal with all that.

Plus...

3) You went through the junk mail. That is worth it right there.

As far as washing your car, it was due to rain anyway, so it would have been a waste of your add/adhd time and you wouldn't have found your glasses, the remote or thrown away junk mail.

Keep up the good work. One thing at a time. :)

That's hillarious, Draven. And sooo true of me too. I often wonder at the end of the day what happened to getting something done. Thanks for reminding me I'm not alone... :D
