Let's talk about life... Mystic_Oracle 08-30-05, 01:17 AM P.S. I'm one myself, and I'll be back after I go put my laundry in the one of the washers in the overcrowded laundry room in the sketchy basement. bcaddkid 08-30-05, 03:38 AM 4 years of dealing with ****ty publicly funded Canadian universities has left me with one very important lesson: You get what you pay for. Maybe not in terms of education, but as far as everything outside the immediate classroom is concerned, then yes, you do. Hold on, I'm at school and trying to find a washroom that's been cleaned in the past 3 months... Mystic_Oracle 08-30-05, 01:59 PM And I have parking tickets out the wazoo. This university has very little parking. They have garages, but they fill up quickly and so until a garage space opens up, I'm stuck parking at parking meters. Lots of times I don't pay the parking meter. Why? There is no place for me to get quarters. No change machine, I even tried going to the main cafeteria and asking one of the ladies at the cash register...she gave me a roll of quarters the first time I asked, but she said, "Just this one time. We're not supposed to do this." She wasn't kidding either. Thursday Sept. 1st I'm going to parking services, as I was told to do, to go get put in the "Garage Space Lottery" as they call it, hopefully one will open up. There aren't even any regular student parking lots; there used to be a few but they were all taken over by new buildings, as my school is an eternal construction site. Seriously, this school does dumb things like, instead of turning available land into a parking lot, they like to 'beautify' the campus with stupid park benches (which I've never seen anyone sitting on) and cement paths. Oh but of course the professors have all the parking lots in the world, and if a student parks their car in any of the professor-restricted lots, it gets towed. You know, now that I think about it, I don't know why I ever expected this school to have support services and accommodations for people like me. They can't even provide halfway decent parking for the general student population, forget about disability services! livinginchaos 08-30-05, 10:03 PM hey Mystic - are there any other schools by you? is transferring a possibility? exeter 08-30-05, 10:32 PM This is part of the reason I have a graduate teaching assistantship: faculty parking and library privs. :D Mystic_Oracle 08-31-05, 01:23 AM hey Mystic - are there any other schools by you? is transferring a possibility? There are a few other schools by me, but none that I'd want to transfer to. The ones in this town, besides the one I attend right now, are two historically black colleges and an all-female college. They don't have the major I'm in; I don't want to change my major because I like where I'm at now. Aside from which, I only have a year left and if I were to transfer, I'd lose over half of my course credit. More work than it's worth. |
