Some postings about pressure easing sensory overload reminded me of Dr. Temple Grandin who designed a squeeze box to help her own sensory issues. A search of the forums found an interesting old posting.

". . . I recall reading Oliver Sacks's "An Anthropologist On Mars," where he interviews Temple Grandin. She makes a remark that shakes him to core of his neurologist's soul -- that autistics cannot form psychological defenses. His first comment was that ALL humans form defenses, then he backs away one step from this kneejerk assertion to remark how strange such an existence would be. . . "
Temple Grandin is a remarkable, intelligent and very interesting person. Her website: http://www.templegrandin.com/
For anyone interested in an exceptional adult's view of living with autism, I highly recommend reading Temple Grandin's books, Emergence: Labeled Autistic and Thinking in Pictures and Other Reports From My Life With Autism.
