View Full Version : What we do to Entertain Ourselves!

I was thinking that it might be fun to list off some of the things we do to feed our creativity, or to just plain avoid restlessness. The last thing a college student with ADD/ADHD needs is to be in a rut, because we all know how boredom and/discontentment effect our studies.

The reason I didn’t post this thread in the General or Adult ADD/ADHD area is because I figured people would suggest reading books, which is something we already do way too much of. And also because when you’re a grad with a fulltime job you can get involved in hobbies (etc.) that we college students can’t necessarily afford.

So what new and exciting things do you guys do to stay entertained?

I am way into trying new ethnic foods. Unfortunately because of where I am my choices are limited. Most of the people Saginaw, MI migrate in from small farm towns, so as far as ethnic foods go we have one authentic Mexican restaurant, a handful of China buffets, a few chains (like Don Pablo’s and Olive Garden), and thankfully we have Hello Sushi and the Genji Japanese Steak House. I usually end up buying cookbooks and tons of interesting ingredients that I rarely use. Ethnic foods are fun (and, I think, exciting), but they can result in missed classes….

Foreign films are fun and new too. Some of them are really horrible, but there is no such thing as a boring martial arts film or subtitled musical. Plus, if you’re into Bollywood films the fun can last for hours and hours because they tend to run 3-4 hours each.

I usually end up watching a lot of documentaries too. I used to be into art, but I just don’t have the time anymore.

I knit, crochet, and quilt. It keeps me busy while I watch TV. Marie

When I write I can really get into my pencil. It's yellow, about this long, the eraser is worn at an angle and it is made of recycled products, no.2.
If I wiggle it from the middle it looks like it's made of rubber and if I bounce it on the desk it makes a really cool sound.

Don't tell me to get a life....because I am thoroughly entertained! LOL

The only thing that keeps me busy and moving enough to not be overwhelmed by thinking, restlessness and boredom is going out with my friends.
What we do while we're out is unimportant, but if im out of the house with someone I can have fun with, im good.

ah! yes. i call it "puttering". at any time or another i read, cook, bake, play my games on the computer, surf the net, post on forums, knit, crochet, sew and embroider. i also do a little gardening. and if all else fails and i am really really bored, i reorganize a closet or clean and rearrange a room.....(and then there are a gazillion unfinished projects....hmmmmm)

heh ...

my college roommate and i recorded a line on our answering machine that Steve Martin's character in L.A. Story said, "I could never be a woman, I'd just stay home and play with my breasts all day." Then we added, "We're not available right now, please, leave a message."

another popular one was our recording of "every sperm is sacred" from Life of Brian ... we added, "your call is important to us, please leave a message."

that was a fun year. what i didn't think of, she would, and vice versa. :evil grin:

The more bored I get, the better dinner I end up having. I've been known to spend 2 hours putting together the "perfect" meal. I love cooking. Don't even get me started on baking. Too bad baking requires things like mixers and ingredients that I have no other use for and it makes me fat and ugly cuz I always eat the batter
*bad bcaddkid BAD*

Um, I go skiing, which isn't cheap or accessible to most people, but it's what I spent all my disposable income on, and I work in a ski shop, and I happen to live less than 30 minutes away(by bus) from a ski hill where I have a free pass (thanks part time skishop job), and my university offers dirt cheap seasons passes to the best/biggest hill in North America (www.whistlerblackcomb.com ....it snowed a couple of days ago..only up top, but still..sick) so it works out. Yoga is my new thing, seeing as I've just started yoga classes. We'll see how that works out, I might be too ADHD for yoga. Um, I like to read, and I *try* to draw and play around with sketches and the like. I wish I could play golf, I really like golf, but I can't afford another expensive habit. Between cooking (I spend tons of money on food, seeing as how I don't really go to bars anymore, and I don't feel bad about it.), going out for coffee (decaf, i'm not allowed to have caffeine anymore :( no more Red Bull :(), and skiing, I'm constantly borderline broke.

Oh, and I like my computer. I like doing things with it. Like IMing my east coast friends. I miss them.

Is that enough? Probably not, I'm STILL always bored.

Oh, and I like going to chapters and seeing how many books I can read in an hour. My new record is 2 and a 1/2. All ADHD books. Driven to Distraction, Delivered from Distraction, and 1/2 of a ****ty one.
