:( I feel like i am at the end.....just dont know what to do about taylor anymore as some know he is my 11 yr old son that has adhd. Well i have been talking to taylors doctor about him being bipolor everyday he seems to get worst. Just this week he has almost set my bathroom on fire, Stoled a little boys bike,hid his homework for like 2 hrs till he finally told me where it was but swears he dident put it there??...and told me he hated me :( Called his doctor today that was supose to be helping me find him a psychologist only to find out our insurance may not cover it.He goes in and see his doctor next week and i guess i will go from there i'm just so frustrated right now.To hear your child say he hates you are to see him doing the things hes doing knowing i didnot raise him like this is killing me. No matter how hard i try with him i seem to fell. i have did so much research on bipolor my eyes :eek: feel like they are gonna pop out of my head...(and being a.d.d myself sitting here that long is driving me nutts) but i feel like i need to know everything i can possibaly know on it. I love my son with all my heart and wish so badly i knew what was going on guess i will wait and see what doc. says. Sorry all just needed to vent i guess thanks for taking tthe time to read this

Big hugs Tracy. Hang in there, please. Look into a sliding scale psych doctor, if it won't be covered by your insurance. Have you called your insurance company directly? Many have a toll free number on the back of the card. They may even have an online list of providers for you to go through, to find one in your area.
Could he be feeding on the negative attention? Sometimes, in my kids, they are reacting to the response I give them. Any attention, good or bad, is still attention. I believe there is some information on this in Driven to Distraction (Hallowell and Ratey). It's referred to as "the great struggle." (don't quote me on that, though, it's been awhile since I saw my copy. If you don't own this book, check with your local public library. They may have it, and if you're not big on book reading, it is available on audio.

Vent here, instead of reacting to him in the moment. I have to put myself on time out A LOT. I also found writing about my frustrations/anger/etc. helped me. Maybe it would for you, too?

Tracy, have you tried looking up to see if you have a local ADHD support group?

There are websites I believe that are listed in the forum links that can get you to some of the main ADHD org's that have been building support chapters for years. Sorry, I just don't remember them off the top of my head.
I figured that if I went looking for them before I posted I might actually forget to come back and post at all!


P.S. I have a 12 year old son who DOES NOT have ADHD or anything close who has told me he hates me during many such times and has even threatened suicide just to get a rise. Some of this is NORMAL adolescent behavior. That is why I suggested a support group at all. To get some insight from others on how to spot the stuff that is adolescent behavior and what is ADHD related and manage them differently as you should.

I agree regarding the local add/adhd support groups in your area. CHADD is a possibility. Check the blue pages in your telephone book, and call around til you find something that could help. :)

Well got an update thanks to all of you that responded! Did find out our insurance will cover up to 20 visits. So thats a good thing. Talk to his doctor when he went back in we have decided to try a diifernt adhd med. which is now concerta...in 2 weeks he goes back where might then add a mood stabalizer. Just depend how he is doing. told her i would like to try what we could before we went any futher with the bipolor. Well I'm feeling much better and i pray the med chances will help thanks all for being there dont know what i would do if this board wasent here. WWell will have another update soon kep us in your prayers
