Before I was diagnosed I would get very itchy and my ears woult turn red and hot when anxious. I am on Concerta now and get the same symptoms when it starts wearing off (same thing happened with Adderall XR). If I take another dose, the symptoms go away.

I have started taking Benadryl when they bother me too much or when I don't want to take another dose of the stimulant - it works!

I read that some ADDers have too much histamine, but I don't know if we should treat the histamine excess with Benadryl for extended periods.

Has any of you experienced this?

I can get itchy when I'm anxious. I never thought about the connection with when my meds where off, but it does seem like it's mostly in the evening. I haven't tried Benedryl, but I have found that when I take other antihistamines like Claritin or SudaFed that my functioning and alertness goes to a whole new level. I actually want to ask my pschologist about this, because it's so dramatic for me -- I don't know if there's a down side, so I only take it when needed for noticable allergy symptoms. I don't know if it's acting synergistically with the Concerta or simply by reducing the symtoms from a histamine reaction, I think better. Interesting question you posted though. Maybe some other folks will have some insights to share.
