For those who "fall asleep when they read" what medications have you found helpful. I have tried adderall and it was okay but coming down was hard, looking at trying dexedrine, but first wanted to hear what you all had to say.

What hasn't worked:
I've been on Effexor, Zoloft, Ritalin, and some other one I can't remember.
What worked:
WellButrin. I can read as long as I want whenever I want and it doesn't make me sleepy.

It depends on what I am trying to read and how interested I am!!!!! If it is uninteresting it is very difficult for me to remain attuned to it....I have to do non-medication stradigies like high lighting main points or main scentence in paragraphs, when alone I can read it aloud (don't try this in class).....some times I put a tune to material in my head you know like making anotomy a rap song, math counrty...I know I am nuts,,,,, some times making out line notes of material (using one short scentence of main idea and one word for supporting data),,,, draw diagrams...read while standing....standing will decrease likelyhood of sleeping......make smart remarks (silently when in presence of others) while reading long boring theories...power reading like reading as much as possible in set amount of time. Kind of like the fly lady thing with dull house hold chores,,, use timer for time intervals to avoid looking away from book and up at clock or down at watch!!!!
Obviously the reading in and of itself is understimulating try different tech to keep braiin more stimulated will help some times. Some thing as simple as bouncing foot, or rolling ball inside hand will be enough of a stumli to keep brain alert enough to complete reading task.....
If I am interested in material the word usually form thier own pictures inside my head and reading awaken me as opposed to putting me to sleep .

Cool guys. Anyone have any idea of what meds helped them overcome this?? I guess my post also relates to my problem of reading things 10x over and having nothing register. Does anyone have any success stories regarding this such difficulty?? Thanx

*edit* realized later this post is 2 years old...apologies, but my response my help someone in the future.
you may not need meds. This is my first post. I read in the book "Delivered from distraction" that 30% of ADHD'ers have a condition called convergence insufficiency, thi sia order of the eyes branded under the term "exophoria". I'm not an expert, fortunately, my sister is an eye doctor and was at arms length when i read the phrase in the book. she did some simple tests and foudn out i have a high degree of convergence insufficiency. I fall asleep reading almost anything.
I have two issues to address at this point, one is ADHD, which i was diagnosed with 2 days ago, and then convergence insufficiency, which tires my brain out because my eyes have to strain to converge on words.
You should check on this, it may save you grief. I learned this all after graduating college, had i known all what i know today, i wouldve went to grad school!
