what up yall, i just recently started taking Adderal XR (10 mg) about 4 or 5 days ago. I realize 10 mg isnt a large dose but i do see myself setting up daily goals and they do get done. I am happy with it so far. I just started my first year in college about a week ago and i dont see much of an improvement in myself when it comes to paying closer attention ( i hope you guys understand what im saying ) to the teacher. I am, on the other hand, getting assigments and studying done. Id like to know if maybe a higher dosage would perhaps help me pay closer attention ???? Maybe a 15 mg xr?? I also still see myself getting distracted by things that i shouldnt let distract me (my mind always wonders off in class!!!!). Maybe i should talk to my docter or does some of it have to come within? Any suggestions/comments please, post what ya can
thx
peace

Hi! I think people normally experiment with what's going to work for them in the beginning. I went from 10 to 15 mgs. within the first week. I tried 20 but it made me too jittery. I take the instant release. Also, your going to have to make an effort to concentrate in class. Adderall helps, but you still have to do your part.
I hope that helps!

You just have to give it time. You will know when it needs to be upped,if it even needs to be .Everyone is diffrent.I myself have had mine upped three times, now I take two 30ml. a day.Sound like your still having a hard time calming down? You will know when it feels right, calm and comfortable.Good luck to you.

I tried the XR, and they didn't work for me. I took a 20 mg. in the a.m., and felt horrible. I didn't like the XR. I take a 10 mg tablet in the morning, and half a tablet in the afternoon. That's just me though, everyones different. A friend of mine takes a 20 mg tablet in the morning, and 10 mg in the afternoon. I think you should find a balance of feeling the effects, but not feeling so jittery that you can't even concentrate. You'll know!

Ann, what kind of effects did you get from taking the Adderall XR???? I dont get jittery at all when im on the 10mg XR, but i did take a 20 mgXR today and i noticed a BIT of a difference....not jittery at all tho, so maybe i need to go a bit higher and see if 20 mg xr is better for me? I think in order to see a change i would have to wait atleast 2 or 3 days after taking 20 mg XR I than tend to think maybe just a 20 mg of regular Adderall is all i need..something to last for 8 hrs... :/ :\ 30495d;f gfdgdfg

I actually prefer Adderall XR to my IR version (I take both actually). I find that when I take IR, I get more headaches and sometimes it "hits" me too hard and I'll feel quite dizzy. I don't like that feeling. Of course, it may also be the time of day I take it, etc. etc. For the most part my day starts off with a dose of 20mg Adderall XR and then the IR later on if I need it. I always feel alert, focused, and sharp with the XR. I don't like that drugged up or dizzy feeling I sometimes get when I take the IR in the afternoons. Also I must say I have tried to take more before... Just like you I thought "well if I'm a little better with this much, maybe double will be even better!!" Nuh-uh. Not the case. It made me unfocused, tired, sick, gave me a migraine and made me feel dizzy.

The point is: more is NOT always better!!!

Well, with the XR I just felt sick all day. My head hurt, I was jittery, and I had absolutely no appetite. I don't have these side effects at all with the IR. Well, the loss of appetite is not as bad as the XR. Even though I take the medication, I still battle inattentiveness. I would say it's a WHOLE lot better since taking the meds. I just have to apply myself. When I feel myself losing focus, I make an effort to get back on track. I'm 31, and about to finsih college. It's been REALLY hard for me. The medication is going to help you, but ultimately it's you that's going to call the shots.

Since you just started taking it, I think you should stick to one dosage for a few days. Let your Dr. know that you've been taking 20 mgs. Another thing, the medication is not going to help you be a better student, but not a perfect student. With or without the med's, your gonna have rough days. I think your stressed, being your first year in college. You're gonna do fine!

I think you have it in your mindset that *more is better*. Like I said this is not the case. Don't screw around with your dosages. Try 10mg for a while and stick with it. THEN possibly move on the 20mg after you see your doctor again.

Don't freak out about the dosages. And don't *depend* on the adderall to *make* you into a better student. Only YOU can help youself to become a better student. Meds is not the only piece of the puzzle.
