View Full Version : Has anyone here cured themselves of ADD or any types of Learning Disablites? lychweake 09-13-05, 01:50 AM I would like to some success stories, because i'm feeling really bad right now:p meadd823 09-13-05, 02:49 AM Cured no...... learned to live with yes....... Learning you and accepting your self is one of the major defining moments in learning to live a happy healthy life. I have dyslexia and it affects my ability to see angles. My partner yelled at me because I could square pallets or see angles to align pipes withthier fittings. One day after the umtenth time he got mad because he was having a hard time believeing I flat couldn't see when things were not lined up. I fustration I slammed a pallet hitting it on it's side on top my work table. I felt the shift in my hand. I tried it again with another pallet and sure enough I felt the mis-alignment. I learned that I can feel angles despite the fact I can not see them. I do look a tad funny standing out side with pipes and fittings putting them together with my eyes closed but hey it works. I mark the pipe and fitting with a marker and then glue the two together accoring to the markings. I have learned my rock throwing aime is better with my eyes closed too. Well as long as there is sound to aime toward. I squarl kept chattering next to my work area and would not go away. I tried to throw a rock at the limb he was standing on not to hurt him but to scare him off. I tried sevral times to no avile......the squarl seemed to be laughing at me now. So I tried throwing a rock with my eyes closed using the squirls chattering noise as a point of reference. I hit just below his little feet the first try!!!! Probably not what you are looking for.....but thier is a "moral" Even your limitations have limitations bcaddkid 09-13-05, 04:26 AM You can't "cure" ADHD, but learning to live with it can provide you with different abilities and traits. ADHD doesn't just "go away". Remember: it's a neurological disorder, not strep throat or a broken fibula that you can just mend over a period of time. It's there for life. Doesn't mean you're useless, in fact it's quite the opposite. Go google "famous people with ADHD" and see what you get...You might be surprised. speedo 09-13-05, 06:12 AM There is no cure. However, one can adapt and overcome. Lots of people do it. Me :D I would like to some success stories, because i'm feeling really bad right now:p speedo 09-13-05, 06:15 AM squirrel aka "tree rat" scuro 09-13-05, 06:53 AM "This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man". From Ol' Bill. "I yam what I am yam". Was that Popeye? Go towards your interests and give it your best and all will be okay. Your interests tend to be ADHD friendly anyways. Computer and other technology can really ease the way. Just read an interesting post last night on the ADD Forums about the Dore Method which really helps some folks with their dyslexia (Dr. Hallowell also writes about it in his book Delivered from Distraction). In certain fields dyslexia can actually be a great asset -- there is a neat book out there called The Gift of Dyslexia that discusses how the ability to turn things around in ones mind and develop thoughts through evolving pictures has led to some great engineering and scientific breakthroughs. If reading books isn't your thing but maybe somebody who loves you could read them and high light the important parts!:) |
