Before anyone says this is illegal and demands a public hanging :D I am not referring to closed source, cost OS' like windows or Mac OSX,or Photoshop and Farcry.
This is about the open source community-fantastic,fluent,safer operating systems, software and games built upon community spirit and freely available to those willing to dare to try anything outside windows.
To quote Ubuntu developers- "The Ubuntu community is built on the ideas enshrined in the Ubuntu Manifesto: that software should be available free of charge, that software tools should be usable by people in their local language and despite any disabilities, and that people should have the freedom to customize and alter their software in whatever way they see fit."
For those wanting to try UNIX and Linux based operating systems (vastly superior to windows in my opinion :D ),go to:
http://www.linuxiso.org ,the person will need to have spare CDRs,and cd burning software that is compatible with ISOs.
For those that don't have spare CDRs,or even a CD-RW drive,it's still possible to use linux,Ubuntu is one OS that actually sends out install and live discs to users-for free-no cost for delivery and no cost for discs:
http://www.ubuntulinux.com/ -main site, https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ -site to order copies from.
For those who do not want to install linux, but would like to give it a try without the risk of partitioning, the copies Ubuntu send out have a live disc, which is Ubuntu-but it runs from the cd drive and does not affect the hard drive whatsoever-no installation needed.
It takes a while for delivery, but it is worth it!
http://www.gimp.org/
^GNU Image Manipulation Program,a quality free graphics program, often compared to photoshop, not as many functions as photoshop, but then, exactly how many people use everything in PS? :D
It's multiplatform,so those on all OS' can use it.

^Openoffice
Amazing office software, like windows office suite-only free! and multiplatform, personally I'd choose Open Offices' word processor over Microsoft word (I have both on different partitions) but it's a matter of taste.
If anyone doesn't have office software, get this.
To save time linking to more individual sites, have a look here;-

^A haven for free opensource software-games,operating systems etc.
Apologies to the board staff if I have placed this in the wrong area.
