Hey everyone,

Whats up, ive been taking strattera for about a month now and recently i have noticed this really crazy side effect of sweating while i am on it. I am a medical student and the past two times I have seen patients I have sweated like mad and it made me and the patient that much more uncomfortable. we are talking like dripping sweat and I had to make up that I just ate some crazy thai food for an excuse, which they didnt buy. ANyone have any suggestions?

I've had the same experience. My trunk tends to get sweaty more than my face or extremities. It isn't tied directly to exertion or outside temperature- although I do sweat more when exercising.

I changed to a heavier duty anti-perspirant and even carried a hand towel in my bag because I hate feeling clammy. I am acutely aware of it, but haven't had anyone ask me about it.

I've been on and off the med several times and the sweat always returns. I find that it is dose dependent- that is, I sweat less with less meds in me.

Wish I could be more encouraging, but it's a pesky side effect that evidently some people get and others don't. Why, I'm not sure.....

Yah I have definitetly noticed an increase in sweating since taking strattera. For me it is very apparent facial sweating. Less than one minute outside is all it takes for me to start breaking out in heavy sweats. It is very annoying and its gotten to the point that I just avoid being outside and walking anywhere (which makes it tough when you trying to go to classes, so I usually try and find a very close parking spot). Inside buildings its not too much better, but if its air conditioned my sweating usually stops. I am looking forward to the winter. I'll ask my doctor next time if there is anything I can to calm the sweating down. I heard botox helps :)

Also I remember you from last year saying you were starting med school trying to go unmedicated but were thinking about trying stratterra. Just curious how that ended up going. I'm actually taking the MCAT in april and applying soon after so I was curious how the med school experience was having ADD and all. Unfortunetly for me I don't think I could ever go without medication (its like a night and day difference). Anyways good luck with school.

Excess Sweating is One of the many side-effects you can get from taking Strattera..
I'm led to believe that the side-effects will fade away after a time...
A time i wasn't willing to wait for : I took Strattera, for just over 3 weeks... I had more than Sweating and Dry mouth with Strattera(It obviously didn't suit me) I was quite ill and needed to be weaned off the Strattera and i'm now on Concerta, which is ok, but dosage needs to be upped!

Persevere with Strattera and the Sweats, but tell the Psychiatrists/Doctor about your side-effects and go from there.

Good Luck (Strattera is a great Medication, but you only see the full benefits of Strattera, after 3-4 months, if you can beat the sweating side-effects) LOL

I had many of the side effects when I first started taking Straterra....including increased sweating. When I experimented with reducing the dosage, the side effects dissipated. The side effects always came back when I upped the dosage. A gradual increase in dosage would be best. I eventually found a dosage where the side effects were not too bad.....but I still had good positive results. After a few months, all of my symptoms were very slight or non-existent. My doctor's recommendation is to reduce the dosage tolerate the side effects, then evaluate the results.

If Straterra has been working well for you, be patient and try to work with it. It's been great for me so far.

Its working for me so far, I am in my second year of medical school and last year I was taking adderall, which worked quite well too. But with the adderall the comedown was pretty harsh and I find strattera much, much smoother. The side effects were bad at first, but now I like it so much more since I can feel it act 24/7 for the most part. I am hoping that the sweating thing will get under control since I will start seeing patients everyday. we will see.....

I have been taking it for over a year (60mg a day) and during the day (I take it at 11am) I sweat like a pig. It sucks.

Ditto when I was on it. My bed sheets were soaked every morning. Wasn't the magickal pill for me, Kiddo...I quit it.

I am at 80 mgs right now (for the past two months or so) and the sweating is bad. I don't remember me sweating this much when I started off on 40 mg. I have increased it from 40 to 60 to 80 now though and I feel I am getting the best results from this. I am considering bringing it down to 60 again, though, but I don't really know if it would affect me much. Thats the thing with Strattera, unlike Adderall, its hard to tell when it really starts working and how well it really works. I can definitetly tell a difference from when I started taking 40 and now, but some days when I only take 40 mgs (I am prescribed 60 40mg capsules, to be taken twice a day, per month) it still seems to have the same effectiveness. Oh well, I guess I'll just play around with it a little and see.

I sweat too. Mostly within an hour of taking my dose. It's not bad, because it usually is only one quick hot flash and that is it.

I have tried the following dosages:

40mg in the morning and 40mg in the afternoon - can't remember
60mg in the morning - extremely tired by 2:00pm
60mg before bed - would wake up multiple times in the night
80mg in the morning - side effects too bad
Currently I am at 50mg in the morning and 25 at noon. This seems to be the best dosage yet. No side effects at all. Remember the half-life of Strattera is 5 - 6 hours. For those that have a high metabolism it may be even shorter. I fall in to this category. I can lose 5 pounds by just skipping a lunch and eating a light dinner.

I've heard and read that a low dose high blood pressure medication can help. I don't know how it works, I've never tried it, but I hope it works for you.

I've been on Strattera for around 7 months now and I have noticed periodic profuse sweating, usually within an hour or 2 of taking my dose.

I'm a big guy and have always been quick to break a sweat during physical activity. But one thing that has always thrown me for a loop, and which seems more pronounced now on Strattera, is my propensity for breaking into a heavy sweat in cool humid weather. It often seems as though I sweat more in February than I do in August?

For example! I just had to excuse myself early from dinner with a friend because I was dripping like mad. I left my apartment in a wool peacoat, scarf and hat and walked around 8 blocks to the restaurant. It's around 30 degrees here (F) and the humidity is at 60% or so, even though it felt chilly I started to feel a little damp as I approached the restaurant. When I got inside and took off my coat the dam broke and I started to gush.

Has anyone else experienced or noticed this?

I just quit Strattera after four years: 80mg/day for most of that time. One thing I noticed on Strratera was profuse sweating, especially during the first year but it never really went away. Some times really remain with me: my shirt was drenched at the gym (before Strratera I'd sweat, but nothing like that). A few times on biz-trips I'd break into sweats walking around, which was really bad b/c I'd arrive all wet and stinky. Once it was so bad I had to buy a new shirt!! When I'd get into high-stress conversations I'd break into heavy (and visible) sweating, which was awful. Finally, the weirdest one -- sex with new girlfriends. Once we got comfy w/ one another I wouldn't get all sweaty but those first few times I'd end up drenched. Maybe it was related to anxiety or something?

If anybody knows/cares withdrawal from Strattera was no big deal at all. I've been off over a week and feel great: better than I did on Strattera. I'm also on 10mg Lexapro.

Thanks--just starting on it here (started at 18mg then went to 25 a week later, now I'm at 40 mg) and I do recognize these side effects. They haven't been too bad in my case but again I'm at a low dosage. I'm also not sure if I 'feel' any change yet.

Adderall worked great for me at first, but now it's become much less effective and I find myself obsessing over whether or not it's working or worn off, so I'm weaning off it.
