I cant believe he said that!
I just got diagnosed and I was telling him everything and it's such a relief to feel like i might get clear headed for once. and he said "But concerta is ritalin and ritalin makes people not horny."

:mad:jerk

Anyone have a problem like this with their significant other? is it true that Concerta decreases sexual feelings?

Generally, it does - but everyone is different.

Your concern, however, should be the inmediate selfishness that was revealed upon then news about your prospects of getting better. :(

Actually, for me, it has made me more aroused. I was kind of border line on sexual interest....

I will totally agree that the boyfriend should never have said that. That is rude!! Does he not care about the benefits of having someone in his life that is more stable and happier???

You know what?? I just reread your post and realized that you are discussing Concerta being similar to Ritalin. I should add that mine is Ritalin and I am new to it.

I also just read that this is the "women with ADD" section. Am I not supposed to post here?? If not, sorry!! I'm still learning.

LOL bob...too funny.

I take concerta. It's never been an issue for me. Quite honestly, I'm a lot happier in my life post-diagnosis, so I believe that has had a positive impact in many other aspects of my life.

Lana, you now have the opportunity of educating yourself and your boyfriend about ADHD and medication. I doubt he was trying to be a jerk; he just needs more facts and fewer myths.

Anyone have a problem like this with their significant other? is it true that Concerta decreases sexual feelings?Concerta had quite the opposite reaction for me -- my husband was thrilled!;) I was able to focus long enough to really be present and enjoy things. I've read in Driven to Distraction by Dr. Hallowell that frequently women report stimulents enhance their sexual experience.

I'm glad you're meds are clearing your head and yes it was a pretty selfish thoughtless thing for your boyfriend to say, especially as you're just enjoying the first burst of clear headed thinking.

In Delivered from Distraction the authors report that ADD medication may increase enjoyment in sex because the person is better able to focus on the experience and not be distracted by other things in their mind. There was actually a whole chapter about people whose ADD made them not that interested in sex, who found medication changed that.

Lana - my psych had mentioned that actually because it raises dopamine, that it would more likely help you concentrate and be more stimulated. So tell that to your bf. :) Maybe you'll be like the energizer bunny and keep going and going and going..........
Okay, sorry, got carried away. lol.

If that particular one doesn't work, don't hesitate to try others.

I have been on concerta for about ...hmm....well since uhh...crudness. i dont remember. earlier this year. anyways, it has increased my sex drive and since my hub is on dexadrine...which TOTALLY DECREASES HIS it kinda ****es me off that mine is increased so much. on a side note, i believe add medication makes ppl more social...maybe increasing libido as well...and totally takes away any social anxiety probs i ever had.

I wish I'd paid attention to this kind of comments from my then-bf before I married him. He's my ex-H now - it didn't get better. Someone who thinks about her- or himself first isn't going to change her/his spots. Even if they try to "learn", it's just behavioral change, not heart-based.

I have read some reports that indicate Adderall can limite sex drive in some men. It's my understanding that stimulant medication helps women. Women are more able to focus during sex which make it more enjoyable. Since medication can help with other daily actvities a lot of woman are "in the mood" more often. Many woman with untreated/unmanaged ADD are so overwhelmed by every day life sex is the last thing on their minds.

SO I was really concerned about this and so my dr. prescribed wellbutrin with my adderall. He said that a lot of times they are paired to avoid those types of side effects.

Honey, It a man thing. I will tell you tghough some drugs will effect libado. Luckly though my Wellbutrin helps with the ADD and depression and actualy increses my libado. Sex if diffacult with ADD under the best of cercumstances hang in there .
MEN UUUUUhhh!

I have found that it has reduced my interest somewhat but now atleast I am able to be 'in the moment' and able to concentrate instead of my mind wandering too much.

Dexedrine seems to create the opposite problem...
