For ADDers, the fish oil appears to be better. I found a Website that answers the question of "what is the better Omega-3 supplement source: fish oil or flax seed oil?". First you need to know what Dr. Amen says about Omega-3 regarding the brain: EPA and DHA help the brain. This website says fish oil is better at giving you more EPA and DHA.

Here's an exerpt:
"Both fish and flax seed are rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids yet health experts consider fish a superior source for omega-3s. The problem with flax is that it contains a form of the omega-3 fatty acid called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA must first be converted in the body to EPA and DHA to become usuable. Unfortuneatly, this conversion process is very inefficient resulting in usually less than 10% of the ALA from flax being converted to EPA and DHA. Certain metabolic disturbances can lower this percentage even further. Fish oil is a natural source of both EPA and DHA which can be directly used by our bodies. "

Has anyone noticed O-3 supplements improving ADD symptoms? I just started taking fish oil supps for the cholesterol and brain double whammy.

I have read that people with AD/HD may have an even harder time converting ALA to DHA thank a person with out AD/HD. The Books The LCP Solutions discusses it.

OH YES!

Flaxseed oil really helped my ADD, it worked better than my meds, to tell the truth. It really helped my dry skin also. Unfortunately, it caused really bad nausea, so I had to discontinue it.

Tara - Well I guess we're in luck then!

Lil - I'm glad to hear it. I hope I notice some improvements as well. I'm taking the fish oil, and I have to tell you. You do get the "fish burps" as someone in another post mentioned! Blech. I suppose it's no worse than having eaten salmon an hour ago. :)

GROSS ALERT/TMI

Yeah that's something you'll may eventually get used to, since you eat fish anyway. I don't eat fish, that's why I avoided the fish oil caps, cause if I had "fish burps" I'll probably vomit. Flaxseed oil caps did the same thing, except that you get the "nutty burps". I got used to it eventually.
