Had a creative bug bite me last night and thought I'd throw it out to y'all....
A simile (not SMILE) is a comparison between dissimilar ideas, concepts, objects, situations, etc. using "as," "like," or "than." Ex. This argument is louder than a cat fight!
A metaphor is a comparison between dissimilar ideas, concepts, objects, situations, etc. NOT using "as," "like," or "than." Ex. The clouds were puffy and delightful marshmallows in the sky.
How about some ADD similes and metaphors? Perhaps you've used some to explain ADD or an ADD trait of yours to someone who "doesn't get it" by using these little language tools.
Ex. ADD humor can seem as obtuse as a rectangle.
You're thinking, "There are no obtuse angles in a rectangle!" That's exactly my point! Our minds can access relationships between and perspectives on subjects or situations (whatever) that are often way outside the box drawn on a non-ADDer's page (brain) of thoughts. That box is only 2-D; our minds are like 3-D. We have many dimensions existing inside of us.
Ex. This ADD trait in me is an imp that shows up at the most inappropriate times.
W-a-a-a-y out there, I know. :)
