Hello~
I was diagnosed two years ago, when our teenage daughter had a severe depression and inability to concentrate, come on almost overnight. It was triggered by hormonal changes and she was tested for ADHD. It was night and day for her (straight A student). When I was told ADHD is usually genetic, I was also tested. Our son ( adopted) is ADHD/ODD.
It was a relief to know the answer for some things I struggled with all my life, but also more frustrating because I seem to be even more aware of my shortcomings. We both have had bad experiencs with meds and I have spent the past year researching and using health alternatives and finding things to avoid in diet
I also have Diabetes ( 30 yrs) and that has been an extra challenge in my ADHD. I found this site by accident and am SO grateful that I did!. Looking forward to helping with my experiences and to "talking" with women my age, who are having health challenges intensify ADHD symptoms.
It has been a relief to read that others are having similar challenges and it is not just my husband's wife :)

When my hormones changed as I approached menopause, I found that my ADHD symptoms really got worse. A book I've found useful is Thomas Brown's Attention Deficit Disorder -- the Unfocused Mind in Children and Adults and Edward Hallowell's book Delivered from Distraction. Sometimes the first medication you try is a poor fit -- have you and your daughter tried anything else. I found the stimulent medication with the addition of Estroven Extra Strength really helped me. I tried a lot of the other stuff first, but with the hormonal changes and life circumstances it wasn't enough. Exercise multiple times a day was a big help for me when I was in high school and college before I started meds.

Welcome to the forums! Hope you find something useful!
