How does the Nurse Practitioner thing work, Tara? She monitors how you're doing on meds, and gets prescriptions from the Doctor on an as-needed basis?

Technically she works under the liscense of a psychartrist who is in the same practice. She writes out and signs the prescriptions herself but it is under the liscense of the Psychartrist. The one I see is very knowledgable of Psychiatric medication. She also works in an adult psychiatric Crisis Stabilization unit. From my experience with her she seems to have good understanding of adult AD/HD. In my own experience finding a professional to help with AD/HD is as much trial and error at the medication itself. I could't agree more, and thank you for your response. :) Wheel1975 09-22-03, 07:18 PM yep. Same experience here. Finding a person in touch with the reality of ADHD is harder than finding one "certified" to deal with it. joanrdtobe 09-23-03, 06:54 PM True in my experience...sometimes we have to teach THEM......looking back I was darn lucky to find a doctor who did have a clue about ADD and knew what to do with me.... Incidentally, regarding the nurse practitioner thing, in my experience I have very often found they are more knowledgable and more compassionate than the doctors they work for....and thank God they can prescribe meds..... Wheel1975 09-24-03, 12:34 AM I'm finding the same to be true. generaly the nurse practioners spend more time with patients, and i think that helps. |
