Hi, I sent this to ask alice.com but I doubt Ill get a responce, so I figured Id post it here also.

I have been diagnosed with social anxiety and am taking Lexapro to help aid me. I had been taking Zoloft prior to lexapro, but the negative side affects of zoloft made me feel like a zombie and all I wanted to do was sleep. So far lexapro has been working great. I also feel that I have a very profound case of ADD, minus the hyper activity. I have the hardest time focusing on stuff that I do not find intersting, and always find myself hurrying through it, workin on the edge of losing focus, although im trying to stay focused, which in turn causes me to do poorly and make mistakes in my work. If I try and do the uninteresting tasks at a normal pace, I almost always lose focus completely and start day dreaming about random things.

I have noticed that when i smoke a low dose of marijuana, low enough a dose that I still feel very much sober but with the added euphoria of the marijuna, I am able to focus 100% of my attention to any one task and get it done. Its almost like it gives me a one track mind. If I try and focus on two things i littlerly only understand 50% of both topics.

Is there any sientific evidence proving that marijuana helps ADD? I dont want weed to be my main medication for ADD, although I do like it when I REALLY need to focus on something. I also dont like the fact of taking stimulants to help my ADD. Are there any kind of natural remidies?

Also I understand that stimulants affect dopamine which help with ADD. What affect does marijuana have on dopamine?

I don't have most of the answers to your questions, but can tell you that Weed makes my ADD worse. A percentage of ADD weed users , however, say it makes them more "normal" and they can focus. I know someone who used to smoke it to study!

I used to like it at home in the evening, to relax and sleep. :faint: It made me so hungry I was afraid one day I was going to eat THE HOUSE!

I have not smoked pot since I started Concerta, perhaps one of these days I'll smoke a doobie and see how it feels as a "medicated" ADDer. ;)

I guess I happen to be one of the few who are affected possitively by marijuana. I think the key to having it help, is finding the right amount that still allows you to feel sober and in contact with reality, but at the same time is giving you a slight euphoric buzz. Marijuana is just like any other medication. Too much of a drug will give you bad side affect. Same with marijuana, the side affect being too high to deal with reality:-D

Most people and research say that the stimulants are more effective than marijuana. Just curious as to why you are afraid of using them, but not pot?

Anxiety tends to make the brain function slowly. You might just be easing the anxiety with marijuana, but marijuana adversely affects brain flow, and it also inhibits the release of vasopressin, making it harder for the brain to create memories.
