View Full Version : Left car keys inside your car? bratty 09-25-03, 02:23 PM Do you hava a tendency to leave or almost leaving your car keys inside your car? (heee... i almost did it this time :D) joanrdtobe 09-25-03, 02:54 PM YES...and so Triple A memberships end early....OR I leave the keys in the house having locked the house behind me...therefore having locked myself out.... I think we should have "keyless" EVERYTHING.... waywardclam 09-25-03, 03:59 PM I don't own a car, but I am forever losing other keys... hehehe :D Wheel1975 09-25-03, 04:04 PM I carry two sets of keys, one big and one with a car key and a house key. When i stop the car i put the keys on my right leg at my lap. If i foget them, when i stand up they fall on the ground OUTSIDE the car as the door (yes i leaned to instinctively and ALWYS lock the door) shuts. locked. With the keys in my pocket and the keys on the ground i am hardly ever locked out anymore. But i still FREQUENTLY FORGET them! (They hit the ground outside my car....) Debralee 09-26-03, 08:14 AM The dreaded KEY pole!!!!!! LOL>>> I have had a lifetime of problems with keys. But my Fiance who is the one with ADD is the one that keeps track of my keys!!!!!!! It is something that he obsesses about ...lol...thank God...I will finally be able to find my keys when he is around... InattentiveType 09-26-03, 10:50 AM I always carry two sets of car keys. One in my right pocket, the other attached to my belt. If I'm doing anything between parking the car taking the key out of the ignition and getting out of the car (i.e. talking on the phone, gathering up my things, talking to someone else in the car for a while, finishing up listening to a song, etc) I almost always end up leaving them in the car. So I always have my spare with me. Saved me numerous times. I also keep spare house keys in the car in case I forget the keys that go on my belt (spare car, house keys etc) and have to get back in the house. So I'm covered both ways. Although I have left the house without both sets of keys before, that sucks. To remedy that I had learn how to break into my car, which I can now do pretty effectively. :D smooch 09-26-03, 03:56 PM I can't remember how many the last time I locked my keys in the car...I'm sure I've done it before, though. I carry just my car key with the "bleeper" in my purse, and I ALWAYS have to put it in the same purse pocket within a few steps after "bleeping" the car. Otherwise, I'll put it in a pocket, drop it into my "big bag" I carry around, or who know's where the heck it'll end up? In my "big bag" full of activities to do in case I get too bored at work, I carry an extra car key on a key thing with the house/garage keys, parents' house keys,...etc. That extra key's come in handy lots of times when I've misplaced my single car key and I don't have the time, patience, or mood to look for it first. I'm proud to say I've gotten myself pretty well trained on putting that darn key in its pocket and in the little basket by the door as I come into my house.... Absolute rules for the absolutely unruley! Nucking_Futs 07-13-04, 09:31 AM I *knocks on wood* never have but my husband (a normie) has several times. My favorite time was just last Sunday when we were all having a hard time getting our ducks in a row and he started making fun of the kids and I about our ADD. WEll, when we went to leave the library...guess what he did? *howls with laughter* FlakeyGirl 07-13-04, 11:50 AM My husband locked his keys in the car on our first date. He bought our movie tickets and snacks, walked me into the theater, sat with me through the previews then realized he did not have his keys. He went to call a locksmith and the next time I saw him the end credits were rolling. I agreed to a second date and when he came to pick me up, I noticed he'd had one of those number button combination locks installed. We've never had an auto without one since then. Even the kids know the combo.:D NightStar 07-13-04, 11:55 AM If I know I am just stopping for a minute at a store, or post office, I will leave the keys in the car, I know that is not that much trouble to remove them (and avoid risk of car being stolen or even purse) but I think it makes me feel better to cut down on time.. and insure that by removing them, I am not taking forever to locate them again. I have messed up locking keys in car, and here it is $40 for lock smith to come and unlock the car, thank goodness for road side assistance, but you can't use it if your puse is also locked in the car, least they refunded me my money! lol krisp 07-13-04, 12:10 PM It's happened to me before ... I'm not sure how many times. Typically, this is something that happens only when I'm stressed and already having a bad day. But it doesn't happen anymore, because my new car has remote power locks. I always lock it with the remote, which is attached to my keys, so this particular problem is solved. xx fingers crossed xx steveb 07-13-04, 03:43 PM I feel OCD when exiting the car. I swear that I have to tap my pants pocket 4 times as the swing the door shut. I really freak if my wife drives, but uses my keys. I have to see them before I can shut the passenger side door. t-bird 07-13-04, 04:23 PM I have done it many many times. You'd think I would learn by now! jaimegerise 07-13-04, 04:27 PM Ack, I've locked keys in car...AND locked keys in the house! Tis not fun having to break a window and climb through because no other way to get in! LMAO Chantale 07-13-04, 04:28 PM Once I ran my dad's van into a tree... and smashed the back bumper... then, I ran out of the van to see the damage, and.... locked the keys in the van... I had to call my mom to bring the extra set from home. She thought it was funny.... FlakeyGirl 07-13-04, 04:37 PM You have a nice mom! If that'd happened to me, I'd have called Greyhound. Dissident 07-13-04, 05:20 PM I lock mine in the car once every month or two, sometimes more than once. It's like clockwork. Luckily my car has a keyless entry system, you just have to type some numbers in on the keypad on the door. If not, I would be doomed. Chantale 07-14-04, 10:13 AM Well, I couldn't just leave the van.... because the keys were in the ignition, and it was still running... I'm sure if it wasn't running, I would have had to walk home too :) Nucking_Futs 07-14-04, 03:16 PM OK now locking the keys in the house I have done over and over and over once I did it twice in the same stinken day. Luckily, going thru the window is easier after it's already broken...my husband once made the comment that he's going to stick a little cherity door in the door so I can just crawl thru. lmbo steveb 07-14-04, 04:57 PM I refuse to have those safety house entry door handles that let you turn the whole inside handle even when they are locked. I have been burned by those before. pinkie 07-19-04, 10:55 PM It would be really hard for me to lock my keys in my car. I have one of those automatic lock buttons on my keychain, so I just push that to lock the doors and set the alarm. I never lock the car doors from inside the car, so as of yet I've never locked my keys in my car. Also impossible for me to lock my keys in my apartment since I have to lock the door from the outside with the key. If it weren't for these things, though, I'd probably be doing it every other week. GOLDILOCKS 07-20-04, 04:26 AM Yes...inside patrol car...with overheads (red and blues) going and all. Talk about embarassing! I had jumped out on a call, shut door...the rest is history. Think I ran off business for THAT convenience store for a while :( I hated working during the day, because there were times I'd get in my car after a traffic stop & leave the overheads on. I wondered why ppl were pulling over & I just needed something to drink! (DON'T worry: It only happened a couple of times..that I remember, anyway!) So, next time you're cussing a cop w/his lights on & not in a hurry, he/she may be ADD! Nucking_Futs 07-20-04, 07:28 AM Actually, from what I understand ADD'ers make excellant cops and health care providers. My uncle holds many accomodation's for his work in law enforcement and is ADHD. I've never once gotten a bad report in the nursing field. Seem's to me that stressful situations precipitated your mistakes not ADD. Your doing a great job! And I never cuss at police officers who pull me over for speeding I figure I know how fast I was going and I alway's thank them ya never know they may have saved my life. E-boy 07-20-04, 07:50 AM HEE HEE, love this thread! Well, I don't just lock my keys in the car, I have to do it while it's running, and I'm on my way to work for the Navy. Being late to the Navy is bad enough because they get all "icky" about that sort of thing, and while they laugh so hard about why that I usually don't end up in trouble, it's still just too embarassing.... SIGH! As far as nice police officers go, I got nothin' but love for 'em! Who do you think breaks into my car for me when I do that?! LOL! They didn't even laugh at me either! In fact, a few of them were prior military themselves and thanked me for my work.... Here I was expecting to get laughed at by them too. Nope, much props to the cops! GOLDILOCKS 07-20-04, 10:10 AM Well, that's sweet and, I too, heard add/adhd make good cops. I figured some of it may be the daily surprises, adrenaline rushes, etc. At least that was partly why I liked it. You really never knew what was going to happen! Only thing that caught up w/me was my lack for details in my paperwork. I made a lot of "stupid" mistakes. Well, 5 months after I got fired from the last deparment, I was dx'ed w/ADHD...now I know why. Just wish I hadn't waited so long to confirm my suspicions. Now that I know, I'm hoping I can kind of explain my unfortunate circumstances to a prospective employer. IF i get back in. Nucking_Futs 07-21-04, 07:36 AM SERENA unless your six feet under there is ALWAY'S hope. ;) GOLDILOCKS 07-21-04, 03:34 PM True....may at least look into it. Nucking_Futs 07-22-04, 09:21 AM lol you can try your hand at redneck justice here in Nebraska...lmbo...another words we call you after the fight has been broken up. OK ok I'll be serious but only for a minute. If your so worried about your record holding you back I would definatly get all my little ducks in a row and start applying at small towns that don't have women officers I would think they'd almost be forced to hire you to avoid certain unpleasant court cases. In Nebraska we have seen a lot of discrimination but lately thing's have really changed, there are a couple of female officers that stepped up and turned the heat up on their male counterparts making them really work hard to out perform them...I LOVE IT! Go, girls go. |
