^click it for full size.

Background-a recent photo I took of my cinnamon hooded ratty-Khan.
Operating system-Ubuntu 5.04 (Hoary Hedgehog) 64 bit.
Desktop Environment-GNOME,it's not good to look at,but it keeps everything running ultra efficient rather than lagging with heavy design.
I have hacked it slightly, have put Ubuntus' logo in place of GNOMEs foot logo.

It doesn't matter because Windows XP in general is a piece of ****. I'm getting

Six desktops (http://ca.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/itschaotic/album?.dir=/51a6), Fluxbox (http://www.fluxbox.org/) is the window manager. I'm using a distribution of Linux (http://www.linux.org/) called Fedora Core 4 (http://fedora.redhat.com/).
Yes, I like women. ;)

I've used Fedora Core 3, but not Fedora core 4. What is the difference?

I installed Fedora Core 3 on a machine at work, and it seemed to be slower than other distros and broken in a few ways. Is core 4 a big improvement over it?

I'm running fc4 because I thought I was taking a short cut and I had to be up and running quickly. I am not a fan. Other versions have gone onto this box cleanly and quickly.

That said, this fc4 is hopeless as far as any hope of a newbie installing and running it out of the box.

I'm not a big fan of rpm based systems anyway, but this install was brutal to tweak so it was usable. I finally had to gas "selinux" the new and improved all seeing security feature.

It seems as if it's aiming at enterprise, so maybe Mandrake should be used for rpm based "end user" installs.

I think I'd have been better off spending the time installing a Debian based system. I will yet I'm sure. Just need to install Ian on that fourth shift. The slob needs to sleep once in a while apparently. :D

I might have to buy the Knoppix Hacks book (http://www.alibris.com/search/search.cfm?qwork=8718739&wtit=Knoppix%20hacks&matches=18&qsort=r&cm_re=works*listing*title) and play there some. Now that the DVD versions are coming the thing is omnipotent. ;) I've had it on my HD before but could never get all the language aberrations and other minor details cleared up before I gave up on it. My daughters box is a Debian install and it's run flawlessly for way too long. I should take heed of that and suck it up for this router and be done with it.

But first there is the matter of transplanting the asparagus and getting the garlic in before the ground freezes. Then there is the Subaru down the road that needs to be blocked up, wheels taken in for tire repair and then dragged home. Bringing that thing to life will free up one of the daughters. Then there is the work that's to be done for Monday and the plumbing to pipe water to the shop, the water softener leak to fix and I start my half marathon training tomorrow.
Life with kids and lots and lots of distractions. Did you want wrap up that photo enlarger to move it to storage and get those bird cages out of the shop while you're at it? Maybe then we could take the muzzle loader out and put some meat in the freezer... or was that install Debian?

The good news that started the day. I found my PDA!!!
Cheers! Ian.

Here is one of my favourite ADHD backgrounds (http://ca.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/itschaotic/detail?.dir=51a6&.dnm=c309.jpg&.src=ph) for my desktop. When I'm in a dark mood anyway. I'll post some other faves in that directory when I get a chance. They seem to have choked down the size to 600x493 pixels grrr
