I have the considerd 'normal' teenage mood swings, but I think that it could be bipolar II w/ panic disorder. I currently take Zoloft 50mg for the panic attacks but would be willing to stop it when neccessary. I would try to handle the panic attacks myself. I just don't want to have the mood swings anymore. My family is resistant to having me on medication for bipolar disorder, but if I need it, I will take it :eek: regardless :eek: of what my family says!!

Yes, some meds can definitely suppress natural mood swings...the normal ups and downs of everyday life. I have a friend that is pretty much numbed by her medication. Her dear dog died this summer and she couldn't even cry. If you do eventually get medicated for bipolar, you don't want to be numbed to that extent. Normal mood swings are no big deal and easy to handle for the most part, at least compared to the mood swings with bipolar. Good luck!

The reason I ask is because I can get very 'moody' and very irritable very easily. I don't want to have this behavior. I had success w/ risperdal, but I didn't like the feeling of it.

I'd suggest you see a psych first before taking ANY medications and get a proper diagnosis of Bipolar.....I'm no doctor but you seem to have some traits of it.

The medication wouldn't be used b/c of bipolar disorder. It would be used to manage my mood swings that I don't want to have. My mood shifts very easily from a nice and kind person to a very agitated, and aggressive person. Never am I physically abusive but I can knock people off verbally.

The only thing regarding medication, is that I don't want to take lithium b/c of the risk of lithium poisoning.
