I am 18 years old and i'm not sure why I have ocd. I know that it's expected to be hereditary, but no one else in my family has it, or really any symptoms of it. The thing is though, I was a lightweight childbirth since my mom smoked. I would much rather that be the cause, because I wouldn't want my kids to have OCD if I ever had any.

My question is, is it possible for my lightweight birth to be the cause?

I have read so many controversial theories. Some say yes, others say no. I am going through this with my 7 year old son, he was diagnosed with stress induced ocd. At that point I started doing research, and soul searching. Looking back to childhood and even early adulthood, I THINK I may have been ocd. I had always chalked it up to being a perfectionist. Honestly I think that everyone is that way to some degree, it just becomes a problem whenit interferes with your everyday life. For the record though I am a non smoker, and always have been, I wish I could attribute something like that as a cause for my son. I would like to know the reason as well. Our next step is a neurologist to rule out any medical causes... hopefully the neurologist will be able to provide some insight.
